I have a 12 inch 6.5 Grendal that has been accurate and effective at close range.

I'd really like to us my Grendal with an appropriate scope out to 400 yards.

The problem is I don't think any available factory ammo or safe reloads will keep impacts above 1800 fps past 300 yards give or take.

Does anyone have experience with any 6.5 mm projectiles in the 1600-1750fps range? I hear Nosler 129 gr LR Ballistic Tips are good to 1500 fps but I'm skeptical that will be better than an ELDM or TMK.

Before you say "use something else " yes I have a 223 but it's been finiky and I really want a pistol or SBR for a couple hunts were weight/bulk are a factor. I might be biking in or packrafting.

Consider this an option and put it in a ballistic calculator

Assume you lose 40fps per inch and theirs is a 18” barrel. Should put you in the ball park. What elevation will you be a shooting in?

I have an 18” Grendel. Messed around with a couple hundred 129 ABLR trying to get them to shoot well for a similar reason. I built the rifle for wolf hunting, but my 130 Berger OTM AR Hybrid runs out of steam about 550 yards in most conditions.

If you run the heavier bullets you carry more fps down range Appears the 123 Amax and ELDM would get you there

I have a 12” and 20” Grendel in an AR. The gold dot 120s should expand in that range.

Mine are 2400fps in my 12”. 1700fps at 400yds is what the app is showing.

123 SSTs are even softer and should do pretty well at the slower speeds too.

100 ELD VT is a potential other option. Haven’t ran them in the 6.5 yet but have in other cartridges. Guessing 2550fps or so in a 12” will carry energy and speed easily to 400.

I've heard conflicting reports about the SST. Some say 1800bfps, some say 1600. Same with the ELDMs, some say 1600 fps but that doesn't seem to be a sure thing.

Put a 6mm barrel on it? Haha just kidding I’m in the same boat - too heavily invested in Grendel components to switch anyways.

Look at 107 TMKs. I’ve got them going 2650 from my 16” bolt gun. Above 1800 to 450 at sea level and 40 deg.

Do you mind sharing your load data? I'll be rolling my own soon.
