Long Range - Short Barrel -Caliber

Im running an 18inch 6.5-285 with a 156 berger and just barely getting over 2500fps at a max load. Sounds pretty wimpy, but thats still 700+ yards range at 1800fps limit. So I agree you would need to go up to a long action, drop bullet weight, or drop caliber to meet your 2950 fps criteria.

16.5" 22 creed shooting 85.5 Bergers at 3029
Montana so 22 is legal for all game.
Also have the 6 UM but it's currently a 22". But I'll be getting a 18-20" next year.

A 6.5x7prc should do what you want with 140 class stuff, want the heavies I think it'll be too much pressure.

Something to think about, guys running a 26 nosler(103gr capacity) w/ N570 typically find accuracy just under pressure at 3200-3230 with a 26" barrel. Chop that to 18" and I bet max velocity will be around 3000fps. Back off a grain to be safe, you're at 2950. That's the largest commercial 65mm made. This is why I'm suggesting the 140x class bullets.

A 65saum could possibly do it with rl26, but again high pressure. I'd want 80+ grain parent case.
