Long Bow or Recurve?

I like the light feel of a longbow. Recurves seem more powerful at the same draw but they feel blocky and heavier to me. Currently I’m shooting a Tomahawk longbow @ 40 lbs and get pass throughs on white tails so I can’t ask for more than that.

So far recurve. Only have a few shots through a longbow but so far really like it.

I can't suggest the Toelke Whistler enough. Its light, quiet, accurate and assembled before you can find a dropped limb bolt.

you can string it in the field without worrying about blowing it up, you'll never twist a limb if you fall and it's just dead sexy.

I have both and have hunted with both, but when it comes down to choosing one or the other I would pick up the recurve. I like the grip better and think I'm a little more consistently accurate because of that.

Hybrid, long bow limbs with a recurve riser, three piece. I like long bow limbs as the string don’t touch the limbs. And I like the “ recurve” type grip.

I'm only 14 months into trad but when I tried shooting a longbow I had zero accuracy. The recurve felt better. That said, I just love the look of a recurve...there's something about it. I like curvy women too.

I like and shoot both, but currently shooting a 66" mild deflex longbow, similar specs to my first 20ish years ago. Sold that one like a dummy and was feeling nostalgic for a similar rig since I had a hell of a streak back then with the first. My Dad is actually in possession of all my recurves deciding which one he likes best, he recently got interested in single-strings after a hiatus from his wood-handled compound because of a shoulder issue. Hoping to hook him so I have my best hunting buddy back out there with me.

Both but my favorite longbows have recurve-like grips and such highly r/d limb profiles it's really just semantics of the string touching the limb when braced.

How long is it? Can a long draw guy shoot that bow?

Just ordered a toelke Whistler. Can't wait! I've been shooting a cheap recurve but I've always been a bigger fan of long bows. It's a 58 inch so not super long but Dan said I'd like it...

Mine is 58" and I draw to 29.5 without stacking. Dan had no problem suggesting it. IIRC, he said his 60" was fine to 30+.

If you were a lefty, I would hit you up for a test shoot the next time I was in your area. I blew the dust off my Robertson Vision Falcon this morning and flung a few arrows. That got me thinking that I needed a longbow.

I have been looking at the great northern recurve that is being given away in the classifieds, but I am finally 100% content.

I love to shoot both but i do all of my hunting with the recurve. I have a Bob Lee custom that is 12 years old and shoots like a dream. 2 sets of limbs. but if im just shooting multiple targets around my yard i really enjoy the straight stick!

Longbow for me. I like the classic LB locator/straight grip. I shoot the recurves also and like the performance but I struggle with the grip.

I’ve found that I can shoot both a longbow or recurve well, and really enjoy both. But a longbow is harder to shoot well consistently for me. I’ve only ever owned Toelke Whips and a Toelke SS recurve which is 64”.
That recurve is heavier physically than the longbow and that makes it more forgiving if I forget to keep my bow arm on target after the shot.

I have hunted with both, but I have mostly used a recurve. However, my favorite longbow is a short one. Something like a big Jim thunder child.

I shoot both longbows and recurves simply because I love shooting and playing with traditional bows.

I'm shooting both. I can't really decide which I like better. I shoot the curve more because it's a special bow and it's new. The speed of the curve is pretty nice.
