Starting the process of a custom hunting rifle build but the smiths I'm considering using don't do load development and barrel break-in. I don't reload myself and would like to have an optimal load developed and then purchase custom loaded ammunition rather than factory ammo. Does anyone have any experience with companies or guys that do this type of break-in and development?

I used to by buy custom ammo from them over the years until my home state of CA banned on-line ordering several years ago. They were very good to deal with back then but not sure how they are operating now with the current shortage of reloading components. Even when components were readily available, they usually had a backlog of orders after all the big hunting conventions (i.e. SCI etc.)…

Following because I am in the same situation and don't have the time or desire to load my own ammunition. This is why I am considering Gunwerks since they provide the ammo as well. Have you considered them?

I know you have your reasons and I wish you luck in finding what you need.

But... I would really consider reloading. You do not have to go 'all in' to get started. it is rewarding and enlightening. I know situations change - my stuff was set in storage for a few years while I was out of a place and time. Now, I'm back at it.

Yes, I was originally intent on having Gunwerks build me a rifle until I found the cost to be nearly double what other custom gun builders are charging.

Will these guys actually take your rifle and do the break-in and load development for it or do they just load the ammunition for you to test yourself?

I think you can send your rifle to unknown munitions and have them do this for you

I used Will Watson at evolved munitions and he did an amazing job. He was also reasonably priced, responsive and it didn’t take him forever. Highly recommend!
