Living in Lander vs Cheyenne WY — Elk Hunting Considerations

If you had the option to live in Lander, WY or Cheyenne, WY, which would you choose strictly from a deer/elk hunting standpoint?

I already hunt Colorado regularly and focus on easy-to-draw units that I’ve found to hold some extremely productive pockets, so proximity to CO is a real consideration. At the same time, Wyoming residency obviously opens up a lot of opportunity statewide.

Would close access to reliable Colorado tags influence your decision, or would you still prioritize living more centrally in Wyoming?

I can't speak to the colorado piece of this question, but for the sake of Lander vs Cheyenne, I am going with Lander all day.

I feel like the WY opportunities are superior to the CO opportunities but thats just my opinion.

Lander avg wind speed 5-8mph...Cheyenne avg wind speed 11-14mph
My little experience there tells me Cheyenne should be more like 20-100

I have not, only spent time in the north and far west part of the state. Burning my elk points this year so they don’t go to waste.

I like both places. Things are going to be a lot more pricey in lander than in Cheyenne. Though, Lander will get you more of that I live in the middle of nowhere feeling. Cause you do. If I was rich I’d live outside Pinedw though . Either way just living in the state gives you all the opportunity that comes with that.

Yeah, luckily the outdoors are just as important to the wife as far as fishing/hiking goes.

I would forget all about Colorado if I lived in Wyoming.

FWIW, the interstate is routinely closed between Fort Collins and Cheyenne for wind.
