I may be having an opportunity to move to Kodiak coming my way in the near future. Any insight from people who live there or have lived there in the past would be appreciated. It is contingent if I get a offer or not from my recent job application. I would be moving with my wife and my dog, we are in our mid 20's and am most interested in hunting and other outdoor opportunities.
Thanks

What do you want to know?

I can tell you I wish that we had many of things that people think of when they think Alaska...no moose, no caribou, no pike, no grayling, no sheep, no black bear...etc.

All the TV shows, articles and internet press are largely inflated and they're not doing anything to help with the crowds. Namely they make it sound like goats, deer and bear will walk out in front of you waiting to be shot and silvers jump on the bank as soon as you walk down to the river. Publicity is a bad thing.

But I enjoy living here and the fishing and hunting are available. I hope you like rain and fog. Check the current 10 day forecast on your Weather Channel ap and you'll see what I mean. It's not for everyone, but I like it.

I lived there 10 years but recently moved off the island.

Real-estate is quite high and so is rent. $250K is starers for a 1500 sq fair condition and location house. $1500 minimum fir rent. Coasties drive up the costs of most stuff with their high housing allowances.

If you are willing to work to put the time and miles in you can be successful hunting and fishing, but nothing comes easy.

Also very expensive to get away from road system. A 4 wheeler helps with a few trails, a boat is better and multifunctional and an airplane is best. Charter flights get spendy fast.

Ask more questions and we can provide educated responses.
