Ok, this thread is way off topic but...

Does anyone else have a problem with little "mini" mosquitoes?

Here is what I mean. We have all been out hunting or fishing and when the mosquitoes are bad and you find yourself swarmed by the little blood suckers. I was up in Alaska over Memorial Day on a bear hunt and it was really warm. The mosquitoes were everywhere but they were the big "mosquitoes are our state bird" buggers that you can hear on approach like a Chinook coming in for a landing.

Well, around here lately (Kansas City) it seems we have been invaded my mini stealth mosquitoes. These little A-holes are hard to see and hardly the size of a housefly without the huge fly body. Most seem to be much smaller. Most of the time I don't even know I'm donating blood until the intense itch starts. I swear these things are more potent than their bigger relatives as well.

Anyway, sorry, just ranting a little as I sit here and scratch my legs until they bleed...

Reminds me of the gnats when I lived in western AK. Voracious little buggers. Their bites would swell up to the size of a quarter in some cases. Deet basically had no effect. We used to take some battery powered swatters and burn them up mid-flight. They tended to swarm in clouds so if you could zap the whole cloud you could get some relief.

Was out in Colorado a few weeks ago. Camped next to water. Mosquitos were awful. Left my thermacell at home and really regretted it. Deet spray didn't work at all.

I live in Kansas City and they aren't too bad around my house here but they are awful at my son's house further south. Go figure. Can't wait for colder weather.

Yeah, those little white sox or noseeums or whatever are something out of this world. Earlier today I was talking with my dad about our return trip to try to get him a bear in 3 weeks. He was talking about the mosquitoes again and I said "Dad, you have no idea what you are in for" :)

Buy a thermacell. Repels bugs extremelly well

True dat, although it doesn't work as well if there's a breeze.

I wish I had pictures of the mosquitoes landing on the thermacell while I was in a tree stand over bait on our spring trip. I'm not totally discounting their effectiveness but when the buggers are determined enough it didn't stop them all.

Moreover, I'm mostly just asking about those little farkers that I really don't remember being that big of an issue. Yeah, I could take a Thermacell or bug repellant but these bastards are attacking when I'm just outside to pull a couple tomatoes from the garden or I'm taking the trash down to the curb. Not a typical situation where you normally prep for the bugs.
