List of drop tested mounts?

I have used Ken Farrel's (steel) Picatinny bases and (aluminum) rings on every rifle for about 20 years, and I ain't easy on gear. No complaints, no failures.

I've been curious about the DNZs, specifically for Tikkas. The top surface of the Tikka receiver is totally flat, and the DNZ (or any other top mount rings or rails) is only clamped down with tiny 6-48 screws providing tension. It seems to me it would be possible for the entire mount to slide slightly on the gun if it ever got bumped.

Have you done any drop testing with yours?

I'm very tempted to try one.

I’m not gutsy enough to drop test but I can tell you this tikka 30-06 has been up and down the San Juan’s and the upper peninsula logging roads in a ranger in the back in a soft case as well as dropped by accident from a scabbard on a good sized quarter horse- still dead on. The rings are holding a trijicon credo.

I had never heard of Ken Farrel mounts, but ended up with one of his one piece steel bases and the design is really really good. A little extra height, more of a cutout for top loading cartridges, extra thickness in the middle and top notch machining.

I've had very good experience with Seekins rings, and have indeed dropped them from 36 inches. Also, I know folks on Rokslide seem to shudder at "the V word," but Vortex serialized Precision Matched RIngs have been great. I beleieve (but cannot confirm) they are actually made by Seekins., and they look and function identically to my Seekins rings

Burris xtr signature rings work for 36"
drops.
Sportsmatch t084s work for 36"drops on a Tikka.

Seekins rings/vortex pros can crack at the clamp. There's multiple pics around the site, including one from me.

The Tikka receiver isn’t totally flat you can get pic rails or even rings (sports match) that also take advantage of the recoil lug built into the top to help prevent the rings from sliding as well.

I have Seekins pic rings on some rifles and I came across a comment by Form about them having issues,

"Just as an FYI- Seekins rings (and likewise the Vortex versions) show issues with drops. Not saying that’s the issue, just that scopes relatively often lose zero from drops with them, yet don’t with other standard Pic rings."

Form, you mentioned the Seekins rings are suspect after being dropped. Is there a hack to eliminate this issue or is it just a bad design/machining?

That is one of the things I like most about them. I have a couple of Winchetser Model 70 .300 Win mags that are top loaders. A light one and a heavy one. I have big fat thumbs and the extra height on the Ken Farrell Picatinny bases give me extra room to load the big fat cartridges with my big fat thumbs.
