Lightweight Hunting Scope Weight Criteria?

Hi all, just wanted to get your opinion on what you would consider a maximum weight for a lightweight mountain rifle set up, in regards to the optics only. I have a Tikka T3x Lite chambered in 308 and I’m wondering what would be considered as a lightweight scope? Will be looking at up 350-400 yard max on mule deer sized game. Thanks

For me a lightweight scope for a dedicated mtn rifle would be under 16oz for sure, especially with a 350-400yd max. Plenty of light scopes that are 12oz and under.

My lightest scope (that gets used) is 20oz. It’s been on several Tikkas and has been good to go out to 800 or so. There’s lighter ones but this one gives me piece of mind and I’ve never wished for a lighter set up. SWFA 3-9

If you are not dialing your scope you can get away with a lighter one. If you're dialing a lot you'll be better off wth a heavier scope that can handle the changes.

I run a 4-16 Diamondback HP on the wife's 6.5 Tikka SL.
18 oz. Fairly good glass. Confirmed tracking out to 600 yards.
Pretty good option, very happy with it as they come up for sale quite often for $199.

It just depends on the specific use for the rifle, I have rifles that weigh all up at about 5.75lbs and I have a 7.75lb tikka wit a nightforce on it that I also wouldn’t hesitate to carry in the mountains.

for a hunt where weight is a big consideration, I like those leupold 2.5-8x36 or the swarovski z3 3-9x36 (using the z3 on a mountain rifle now).

It all depends on the use and what you are comfortable with, the guy who started stone glacier is an of time ultra light guy but he carries a 30-378 weatherby with a nightforce nxs 5.5-22. I can’t imagine that rifle is much (if anything) under 9lbs.
