What are my options for lightweight hipbelt pockets? I'm looking for something weighing less than 2 oz. So far I've been able to find offerings by REI and Gossamer Gear. Anything else I'm missing?
Thanks.

I've got a SO pack with one of their pockets. I'm relatively happy with the pocket but wish they'd ditch the waterproof double zip. I have to use both hands to open and close it and when I'm out in heavy rain the pocket still fills with water. If I could design my own I'd have a single standard zip with a drain hole in the bottom of the pocket and I'd just accept that whatever is in there will get wet. If your pack doesn't have the MOLLE webbing stitched in the the SO pocket won't work either.

@fishdart I like the weight of the Kuiu pocket, but can't find much in the way of pictures showing how it attaches. Would they attach to a SO hipbelt?
Apologies, but I do not know how the SO hip belt is designed. The Kuiu pouch has a simple pass-through loop sewed on that also has some velcro inside that interfaces with the Kuiu hip belt. I'd bet it can handle about a 3" wide belt at the most.

Another thought is to check with the various cottage makers on ETSY. No shortage of folks making U/L gear there.

Hmmm. short answer, I run belt pouches on my hunting packs and prefer seek outside or 500D versions from a tactical gear company called try tactical or tactical tailor. they are on the outside of my pack and take a beating when the pack is set down and moved around.

Somewhat longer... I am all for saving weight but I think at some point you compromise durability. For lighter backpacking I will make that trade, but for hunting, I tend to want slightly more durability, albeit with a weight penalty.

Case in point, I have a gossamer gear pack (mariposa) and it is wearing some of their pouches and has built in pockets on the belt. Within a year the pack as pickuped up a few rips and tears, some of which are more than cosmetic. I have patched it with tenacious tape, glue and a little sewing. For the price and the unloaded weight (well under 3# empty with pouches), I will accept that this pack has a shorter life span than my hunting pack and it will hold up to a reasonable amount of hiking use. However, I wouldn't take this pack or the belt pouches hunting, where the abuse level is much higher and I just don't think they would hold up.

In my Kifaru eastern ruck belt which smaller than frame pack belts - I use two if their chamber pockets. Works well, light still durable.

MLD makes great stuff. But back country hunting and ultralight hiking are two different animals. I'm really confused where people think they would notice 3 extra ounces. You could not tell the difference for a million dollars. In the backcountry I will take reliability over 3 extra ounces
