Lightweight factory Tikka stock

I decided to see how light i could make a Tikka factory stock.

This stock was one that I had cut the butt stock short a few years ago for my boys. They are big now so I figured I'd hack this one up. The length of pull is about 12.75 in. A little bit too short, but it works..

First, I removed the butt pad and all of the innards in the buttstock. Then I hacked off the forestock back to the first lateral partition.

There's still too much meat on this thing. Then I cut Windows out of the butt and nearly the remainder of the forestock but left enough to where there'd be something to rest the gun on. I also took some material out of the grip underneath.PXL_20250109_062913204.jpgPXL_20250109_071210336.jpgPXL_20250109_071225161.jpg

It's terribly short without a butt pad, so I made a therm-a-Rest butt pad, using one of the stock pieces as a spacer and, a duct tape cover.PXL_20250110_060350529.jpgPXL_20250110_060359233.jpgPXL_20250110_061511862.jpg

Not bad!

I put my 6.5 cm into it to test it today.
21-In factory light barrel with scythe suppressor
Tally lightweight rings and swfa ultralight scope
140 match burners, h4350, at ~2500fps

I don't have a picture, But on the scale the all-in gun with the lightweight stock weighed 6 lb 12 oz.

Shooting it off the bench sucked because the lop is too short. I think if you leave the butt stock at factory length, it may only had half an ounce to an ounce. It is worth doing.

This gun shoots absolutely lights out and is usually no more than 1 in at 100 for 20 or 30 round shot groups. The two shots high and left were misses

The credit for this idea goes to the guys in the UL kimber and ULUL thread.

Cool project. Also cool profile pic. Roy was my great-grandfather.

That sure is cool. I have not read it yet. That one belongs to a tiny general store/lodge near Duchesne and I didn't know the book existed until I found it there. I plan to get a copy sometime soon
Sounds like you had a blast.

What was the total reduction in weight?

P

I'm not sure because I didn't weigh this particular one before cutting the LOP short a few years ago. When I have weighed my factory Tikka stocks in the past, they've been ballpark of 28oz.

I'll see his son this weekend. I'll have to ask about it.
