Lightweight Custom Action Options (6mm CM, HNT26 build)

Technically yes they have a dove tail. You get 2 choices, one of which has been tough to get lately I believe(sportsmatch). Plus they are imported from EU correct? The UM rings are the only logical(to me) option I'd consider(and I have them). I used A419 Tikka Pic rails on 5 tikkas with zero problems as well. They were epoxied on and loctite the screws.

@denverangler725 When I had my Tikka 6.5PRC, I had some Burris rings that mounted on the dovetail and used a pin to ensure the front scope based never moved. They worked for me.

Another option would be to get direct mount rings. Talley and other companies provide a few options. You just need to decide how much you want to pay and decide whether to prioritize weight vs ruggedness.

I actually already use the Unknown Munitions tikka rings that fit directly on the dovetail on my stock tikka. Work great. If I decide to build this 6CM using my tikka action, ill probably just stick with them!

I think most of these actions will work.

Pick one then focus on the most important.

The barrel and who’s cutting it.

That’s what makes the difference between a mediocre rifle and a hammer.

Who do you use? If you don't mind sharing.

Bartlein, Krieger, ace, there’s more but that’s who I have used for blanks. Proof, PVA I have used as well but I put them a hair below the first group ime.

For a gunsmith somewhere small enough that one guy who is detail oriented is doing all the work. Lately I have been sending blanks to fisher t&c.

Iv used a bunch of others but I have found the above usually leads to the most accurate and trouble free shooting. Prefit or send your action that dosnt matter to me as much as the smith doing the work.

The UM rings seem like an excellent product, but I went for the Burris because they were a tad lighter and used the dovetail/pin as well.

I really am looking forward to seeing your build when it comes together.

I’m starting to put together a lightweight 6mm Creedmoor, mostly inspired by some of FORM’s thoughts and the Exo Mtn Gear podcast. The idea is a suppressed hunting rifle that’s light enough to carry all day in the mountains but still shoots consistently out to the ranges I’m comfortable with (~500 yards).

So far, I’m planning on running an MDT HNT26 chassis with a 16" Proof carbon barrel and a Nightforce SHV 2.5–10x. The part I’m still hung up on is the action. I definitely want steel, not titanium, with an integrated scope rail. Something in the neighborhood of 25 oz or under would be perfect.

I know the Defiance Anti x is a popular option, but I’m curious what else people have had good luck with in this space. Kelbly, ARC, Terminus, Lone Peak, Zermatt, etc. If you’ve run any of those lightweight steel actions in the field, especially suppressed, I’d love to hear experiences

Lead times and customer service matter too, so if one company really stands out (or the opposite), that would be great to know.

Appreciate any firsthand input trying to build something light but bombproof.
Wondering if you’ve calculated the overall extended and folded length with the MDT and 16” barrel? I’m guessing somewhere around 27” folded without suppressor of course, and 36” extended? Contemplating a similar build so curious on your progress.

I can tell you exactly in about a month or two when my new barrel arrives and I put everything together
