Tree stand in hardwoods with shots 200 or under, the Remington Model Seven in 260 gets the nod. Light weight, short barreled and deadly.7-08 is plenty as is the 6.5 CM.

A Howa Ranch 1500 in .243 fits the bill. Great little truck gun. You can dress it up if ya like. Hogue stock is nice.

I built a Treestand rifle for my kids, but I end up using it more than they do!! It’s a Rem 700 in 243 win with a 19” barrel. But more importantly a 12”lop. (See pic. .243 is plenty)

For the weight Bullets Mentioned a 6.5/.264 bullet makes more sense. So I would look at a 260 Rem especially if you go with an extended mag to seat the bullets out. or 6.5 cm or custom 6.5x47L

use a short action otherwise it defeats the purpose of a compact gun. Model 7 is great.

I would cut the barrel around 18”! Vey nice in a treestand or box blind.

I would shorten Lengthy of pull! So much easier to shoot odd angles without the long stock and craning you’re neck.

no muzzle brake. You’ll not enjoy it and with the grain Bullets you won’t need it. No need for a magnum cartridge for deer. You will be able to kill deer as far as you can see them with any of those cartridges.

Looking at building a short rifle for deer and likewise game shooting 120-140grain bullet. Trying to determine whether to go with the 7mm-08 Remington, 7WSM or 7RSAUM with either a Bartlein 2b or a new Bartlein carbon wrapped barrel finished at 20inches. Most likely will put a muzzle brake on it with how light it will be. Will a Defiance XM length action be better than one of their other two shorter actions? Then putting it in a Manners EH6 or EH1. Thoughts or experiences with something similar would be much appreciated.

How about the Manners MCS-CS with edge fill? Would go perfect with a Rem SA 700 or better yet Model 7 with a 16-18” carbon Barrel

Ive killed a bunch deer out past 250 to 300 yards out of a climber hunting around beanfields here in the Carolinas. I hunted out of a climber that I could sit facing the tree and used the back bar for support. Buckshot Cadillac, then a Super Mag. It’s actually a pretty common practice here in the south. A Browning Abolt in 25-06 and a Remington Model 7 in 308 accounted for the majority of them.

Howa Mini Action 6.5 Grendel 20” #1 Barrel Youth stock is perfect for me as a truck and climbing/ladder stand gun. It’s first season last fall went 3/3 with 1 pig, 1 buck, 1 yote. Only problem is barrel too thin to thread for suppressor I have in Jail.

I've got a Remington Model Seven SS in 7-08(with 20" barrel) and 7 SAUM(with 22" barrel). Both are accurate, handy rifles.

I have the same climbers and hunt everything from thick timber, swamps, and large bean/corn fields with them.
