Lightweight bipod options

i have the backcountry also. i mounted it and had it sitting on a table in the half way position. i was on the phone and and working the bolt with one hand. after a few strokes on the bolt the left leg collapsed. i repeated that a few times with the same result. mdt sent me a new one and it does the same thing. curious as to how yours is functioning?

I already sent it back haha I couldn’t like it… the constant pan that can’t be locked out was a deal breaker for me. It was light but yeah I could easy see breaking it.

I ended up getting the GW elevate but I’m waiting for it to arrive

Let us know what you think of the GW Elevate.

I’m liking the MDT mountain bipod so far coming from a Spartan Javelin the last few years. I have pretty much all the common heavier bipods Harris, Atlas, Cyke-Pod as well. I’ve shot off the gunwerks as my NRL hunter partner uses one.

The mountain bipod has most of the functionality and controls I like on the Cyke Pod and it doesn’t have pan which I lock out/delete normally. It’s lighter than the Spartan Javelin and I don’t have to holster the bipod when not in use. There is definitely slack in a mountain bipod but it disappears under the slightest preload. It is no different than the slack from the spartan javelin interface.

I like it so far - it has way more adjustability with the splay adjustment. I do like the quick deploy leg section vs twist lock of the mdt. It covers most any adjust you’d need for quick prone shots.

It’s definitely heavier but it feels much more substantial under gun vs the backcountry

The attachment method is pretty slick as well.

Dang , I must be a total cheapskate, all mine a Amazon Cvife carbon fiber
$30?
Still have a Harris extra long if I am hunting in Tall grass deer or pronghorn hunting $45 back when I bought it

I think in my 30 years in the hunting industry some people are just very susceptible to getting ripped off by gimmick stuff , I can see carbon fiber for light weight. But it your paying more than $100 for a bipod you’re getting ripped off or are stupefied by a con

Sent this to my buddy who just had one delivered yesterday. He put a little pressure on the front and sure enough, the leg folded up on him. He said now it won’t even hold itself up without the leg folding.

Guess it’s going back and an Atlas will be headed his way.

i have faith MDT will figure it out. This is they're first attempt at a lightweight hunting set up. the Mountain only has the 90deg setting and im sure it is solid, plus it doesn't pan. im not real big on bi-pods but like to have a kick stand. they were great on the customer service side and offered 20% of on a Mountain. I,m not a big fan of the spiked feet either. most likely going with the gunwerks.

Following up-

My buddy heard back from mdt today. They are sending him a new one and said they had a bad batch go out which is why they’re currently backordered. They’ve fixed the machining issues and have resolved the problem.

Still enjoying my mountain bipod. It will be coming with me this fall.

I would deal with an extra ounce or two to see MDT beef up the adjustment portion of the bipod along with sell it without those stupid spiked feet.

The thing is stupid light though. So light I couldn’t justify not taking it. They could easily make an XL mountain bipod that’s a hair longer and hair beefier and take out their lightweight double pull sales.

Kill the sales of a $750 item with a $450 item? That's bad business my man!

It would really be awesome if the mtn bipod had each leg section 3-4” longer. With the wide splay these have for a field bipod it would be so great to add height and they can still get low. Yeah I bought one anyway

That is interesting. i was informed the prototypes were good but the production had material issues. the fix was coming for 2026. they sent me two of them and both had the same issue. they did offer a Mountain for a discount. i'll try it out but also have an elevate 2.0 headed this way. .

Funny you say that. The first post was during his phone convo with them. The email he got a few hours later said the same thing you got regarding the prototype vs production model.
