Lightweight bipod options

I’ve put off ever buying a good bipod and opted for shooting off the pack. I may still do this but I wanna spend some time with an actual good bipod (I’ve only ever used a cheap Magpul)

Anywho - I need a pic or arca mount option as it would go on an Xlr element. I want it to be light as possible for a hunting rifle.

Right now I’m leaning towards the MDT backcountry for $300 (but it’s back ordered) or the Spartan Vidarr ($400). I’ve looked at several others but not many live under 10 oz like these do.

Does anyone have first hand experience with either of these for some feedback? Are there any other models to consider?

It's not the lightest but I use an Atlas because its bombproof and completely idiotproof. I value those two characteristics more than saving a couple ounces.

Look at Tricer's new one. I got to fondle one at a TAC event last weekend and it's pretty damn nice. I run a Spartan Javelin and it's good. If I didn't have that one already I would have picked up the Tricer for sure. I was pretty impressed.

I’ve like the gunwerks elevate for a hunting rifle at 12 oz too. If you’re flexible it works in a hunched sitting position.

Gunwerks 2.0 is my jam right now. I can shoot it seated, but I am slightly hunched. If it were an inch longer on each leg, it would be perfect.

I am pretty happy with my gw elevate 2.0, guy I know has been developing a carbon let set up for a ckyepod. It makes the lightweight ckyepod weigh 16oz, and have more height than a triple pull. This will be a badass setup once he has them in mass production.

Is this the r3d ckye pod legs? Saw a couple of them at the Gunwerks match if so. They seem cool, would like to get my hands on a set to see how they actually compare to the triple pull in a match.

Yes those are the ones I'm eluding to. Installing these legs on a ckyepod lightweight, utilizing a LRT fat trimmer non panning Apex with a rrs btc pro clamp will net you around 17oz setup. Lowest height of 11", highest at 44".

I often find myself in terrain where a kneeling or seated shot it necessary due to tall grass, shrubs and what not. I have a 3.2# Tripod setup I'm totally comfortable shooting to distance on, but don't always have it with me, nor the time to unpack and set it up. This bipod would def give a lot of flexibility. I'll be getting a set to try out as soon as he has them available.

I'm sure a triple pull will be more table due to the rigidity of the aluminum, VS carbon fiber, but who knows, it might surprise a guy. I have a triple pull to compare it too.

Ya I was going to say even if it didn’t work as well for nrlhunter comps (don’t know why it wouldn’t) it would be a cool option to have for a hunting bipod.

We personally run the MTN Gear (Now MDT) Mountain bipod and love it. At 5oz its hard to beat.

I just got mine in also. A factory triple pull (used for scale reference) and a lightweight with the R3D legs, fat trimmer, and RRS head.



17 ounces isn’t bad for the versatility.

I’m hoping they perform well, my initial thoughts are the twist locks feel a little cumbersome/clunky as I’m used to just pulling out on the standard triple pull but I’m sure with a little time I could get used to it. I’ve thought about buying the rrs clamp but not sure I wanna pay $80 for a 1.5-2oz savings

I know at a certain point it seems like it costs $100 an ounce to keep shaving weight off lightweight gear. $80 for 2 oz is a bargain haha.

So the big question is…. How much $$ do you have tied up in this?

LW single pull is $700, fat trimmer $115, R3D legs $325, RRS BTC $85. So $1225. It’s fairly easy to get 20% off the Ckye pod. I picked up the clamp for $50 and got 40% off the Ckye pod.

When it comes to the price of this Ckye hybrid it’s not cheap. I did kill my biggest buck last year using a triple pull fully extended. I wouldn’t have had time with something like the Tricer.

This hybrid is slightly slower than the triple pull. Like 1-2 seconds. But at half the weight I’ll use it on every hunt. I kinda look at it like $1k is cheap if it helps you kill a big mature animal.
