Lightweight 7mm-08

I wanted something similar in 308. I went with the Kimber Adirondack. I know you didn't mention this one but after you swapped out the stock and hacked the barrel off you'll probably be in the same price range. With Hornady Precision Hunter ammo it shoots tiny groups and I'm not even that great of a shot. Those groups are at 100 yards didn't measure them but definitely sub-moa.

Nice, I love my kimbers and badly want an adirondack.

The Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle ticks all the boxes from the factory. 7mm-08, Bansner lightweight stock, 20” #1 contour barrel, 5.7 lbs.

You also might be able to find a Weatherby Weatherguard Carbine on Gunbroker for quite a $ savings. They were available with the same 20” #1 barrel in 7mm-08 and factory Cerakoted with a normal synthetic stock. The Bell & Carlson carbon fiber stock on the Backcountry and Wilderness cuts quite a bit of weight, I have a post somewhere with actual #’s.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions! Some of you have some sweet rigs!

I decided to pick up the 700 because the price was just too good to pass up. It also ended up weighing quite a bit less than the posted weights online. It is 6#9.4oz

First order of business will be shortening the barrel. Doing some quick calculations I determined that I will be able to shed 1.25oz/in of barrel that I chop off. So either 5oz for a 20" or 7.5oz for an 18". I'm not too worried about the speed loss since this will not be a long range gun.... decisions, decisions!!
