The old Knapp Sport Saw has served me for almost 40 years. I've had it sharpened numerous times. Just sawed the antlers off my Roosevelt archery bull on Thursday evening. Don't know if they make them anymore? At home I use a sawsall. The Knapp saw weighs 11 ounces in the leather case. Cut the hide away with your knife where your going to saw and it makes sawing a whole lot easier. Obviously if you have caped the animal that is even better.

Anyone try the

UST Brands SaberCut Chainsaw (just for cutting the antlers off at the base, not the skull)?

I have used the commando wire saw for years and it breaks half of the time before the job is done.
The above one claims it's 6oz. I'll probably just have my goats carry a WY saw, but if it was on my back...

Very old thread but:
If you like a lightweight folding bone saw check out the Silky line. They don't target sportsman but there are a lot of choices in size and length and weight to fit your needs and the blade is incredibly sharp. We've used them for everything around camp and also as a bone saw.

Been using a Silky folding saw with medium teeth for a few years now. Been the best I've tried so far.

I normally just carry my Stihl 026 up the mountain. best way to get those horns off. Usually i just glass until i find someone with a bull down, wait til they take out first load, and then move it. They usually just assume a griz got the antlers.

I actually found one of those on a ridge that outfitters used in the past to get their horses down into a rugged area I frequent. Still in good condition, I should sharpen it up sometime.

I have a saw similar to a silky, I'll give it a try. It's my backup saw in case I break the Sven's blade. I love having pack animals...
