Light Weight Merino hoodie

I’ve tried a ton of different synthetic base layers. My main problem in the early season is odor control. Every single synthetic layer I’ve tried stinks to high heaven after a day or two of use. I love my Stone Glacier merino hoodie but want something thinner and lighter for the early season. I hunt mostly in CA and the archery season for us opens in July and August and temps over 100° are very common. Any recommendations for a super thin merino hoodie? I’ve looked into the Sitka 120 and the first lite wick but figured I’d ask around first.

I have the ultra merino 145 and love the thing.
I wear it on every hunt, and it looks like new!

I have the Sitka 120, FL Wick, and the Kuiu 120. The Sitka 120 is softer than the Kuiu and much lighter/cooler than the Wick.
I think the Sitka 120 is the one for me but is the the wick softer than the Sitka 120?

I’d say the Merino is similar is softness. Odd to think about, but the Wick is 25% thicker than the Sitka so they don’t really feel similar in use.
Ok that paints a good picture I’m looking for something super thin I think I’ll go with the core

I hunt the same season as you. Ive used the kuiu 120 long sleeve, kuiu 145 zip hoodie, and first lite wick long sleeve. Ive settled on the kuiu 145 as my favorite. With the zipper open it gets a lot of airflow. The 120 wasn't durable enough for me and I destroyed it pretty fast. I do think the first lite is the most comfortable merino I have but it doesn't have a zip or hood so its not my favorite.

Side note on the stink. I use a sitka lw hoodie a lot and I stink that thing up really fast. While the kuiu doesn't get bad body oder when I sweat in it during that season it gets the wet dog smell pretty strong. Goes away once its dry but just wanted to point that out.

I have had great luck with Black Ovis merino. Some people find it to be itchy, but of the 5 pieces I own, only one thin longsleeve was itchy right out of the box. After a couple uses and a wash it was very comfortable.

When it comes to the stink factor, Black Ovis has been outstanding. I can't make this stuff stink. I have a longsleeve hooded quarter zip that I work out in 5 days a week going on 4 years and I am embarrassed to admit how infrequently it gets washed.

All of my Black Ovis is 4-5 years old and still looks and feels great. Watch for the big sales on Camofire, you can pick it up very cheap. Double check sizing on the Black Ovis website because it tends to run small, I am 6'2" and 190 and am a large in some and XL in others.

Nice, I’ve never looked at any of their garments I’ll have to check those out
