Light-mid weight, quiet, windproof(resistant) layer? Kuiu Peleton 240? Others?

Wind has been my nemesis the last two years. Ive had a tough time finding the right layer that isn’t too heavy but will stop the wind and be quiet enough for eastern treestand hunting. Currently i have resorted to my old Predator cotton bow hunters jacket As it is surprisingly wind resistant.

I thought the FL catalyst might be it, but there has been mixed reviews on the windproofness

The Sitka Stratus might be just a bit too heavy.

The Kuiu peleton 240 is interesting but not sure how quiet it is.

Predator’s High Plains Jacket is also a possibility.

It will go over a Halstead Fleece and then under a Sitka Shacket on colder days. If either of those were wind resistant I’d be all set.

Opinions on the Kuiu for this?

Thanks

The kuiu 240is pretty wind proof but not completely. It is really thin and does not add that much warmth on its own. Not a great fleece jacket in my book but not bad for how thin it is either.

Thanks that is sorta what I’m looking for. I have warmth covered, need to stop the wind.

Sitka flash pullover, its just a thin shell. Doesn't breath that well though if your climbing hills constantly

Too noisy.

The Patagonia Nano Puff is one of my all-time favorite hunting jackets. I’m surprised they don’t get mentioned more. Surprisingly warm for their weight, mostly wind proof, and about the quietest nylon-shelled jacket you’ll find.

I have a jetstream vest, its a bit noisy in my opinion.

I bit the bullet and went with the Stratus Jacket.

Over the weekend as a last resort i wore a Simms Windstopper soft shell under another the Shacket. It was a very good experience and the Stratus is just a tad heavier so i think it will work well. I wish the stratus had the offset zipper as the shacket and fanatic, i really like that set up.

Layers will be

Llano -> Halstead and/or Stratus -> Shacket.

Honestly, I think I'm going crazy still, but the Peloton 97 is way warmer and more windproof than the Peloton 240 in my opinion.

This year I dropped my system to the 125 Ultra Merino Tee, Peloton 97, Guide Vest, and a puffy if necessary. I tend to run cold but that combo was enough for me from 20's through the 80's.

Peloton 97 works great as a sun shirt as well.

I'm not a big sweater though, if you are then maybe the fleece isn't a good idea.

The Peloton 240 is a nice insulation layer, but not very windproof. FWIW when I use both I put the Halstead over the top not under it. In the same size the Halstead is a looser fit.

I have the Catalyst, it isn't super windproof. Its a nice jacket for temps when it works alone or with a vest under it. The sleeves are pretty slim fitting to get many layers under it. I haven't got to the point where I like it better than my old Kryptek Dalibor II yet. That jacket might fit your needs pretty well.

I'd look at the Sitka Mountain Jacket if it's quiet enough for you. I wear mine a lot just as a wind layer and really like it. I like the Mountain vest too, I wear a solid color one a lot on the ranch after trying the jacket hunting. They stop the wind. I thought my Mountain jacket was kinda loud when I got it but after a season either I'm used to it or it quieted down. Its much quieter than the Flash pull over, I bought one of those but returned it.

I used a hooded full zip Peloton 240 this year for some spring black bear hunting that involved some after dark cold quad rides. Right away I liked the wind resistance, and warmth for the weight etc. I used it all fall on a backpack Stone sheep hunt, and two cold and snowy mountain caribou hunts. I really like it for an outer layer or mid layer. Mine is getting some wear from willows as well as half a dozen washings. Very quiet and soft now. Super piece of gear for me. Good luck with your choice
