I do not know of any jackets these days where the hood tucks into the collar. I remember a lot of jackets used to do that.I'm trying to replace an old Browning-branded jacket that used to be quite water resistant andwas my go-to jacket for 35-65* if it was moist but not storming. The thing I liked best about it was that the hood tucked into the collar.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a softshell water-resistant jacket with a hood that tucks away?
Needs to be camo for spring turkey and quiet for early whitetail. Looked at the Sitka Jetstream and Kuiu Axis Hybrid but would like to keep it under $300. (That Browning jacket was $80!)
I recently reviewed a bunch of bow hunting jackets in this temp range (its still on going but prelim testing is done) and found the jackets with a hood were huge toward water resistance. None of the tested jackets had a hood that tucked away but they did have comfortable hoods.
For someone looking for noise and water resistance in this type of jacket, the kuiu proximity LT would shine, it was quiet and was great in wind resistance, and was great from a water resistance standpoint, even in a downpour. Not quite below &200, but close. Another jacket that would do well in moisture is the forloh all-clima soft shell, if you grab one of those on sale they are a great jacket in wet areas for those applications. The forloh is a little noisier, but i dont think it would make much difference except on the quietest of days.
I did not test the kuiu axis jacket as the proximity Lt is a quieter jacket. The axis is not a designed bow hunting jacket where the proximity LT was.
The one draw back with the proximity LT and hood system i found was the hood was difficult to put up with the jacket zipped all the way up to the neck. Unzipping a little made it much easier. Wasnt impossible, just not super easy. If that makes sense.
