Looking for opinions re: the Leupold VX5 & VX6 CDS scopes.

What is the opinion of the price differences between these (2) scopes vs. the added features the VX6 offers from Leupold?
The VX6 line is tremendously more money than the VX5.

To my knowledge, the VX-5 and VX-6HD use the same glass and erector housings (I could be totally wrong as I believe the VX-6HD Gen 2 has updated housing). The other features you get with the VX-6 are the included scope caps, included magnification throw lever, along with an external adjustable windage dial. Also, the VX-5 uses a 5:1 magnification range where the VX6 uses a 6:1 magnification range (Think 2-10 for the VX5 and 3-18 for VX-6). As someone that owns both a GEN 1 VX5 2x10 and GEN 1 VX6 4x24 I can personally say that I notice literally ZERO difference in glass quality.

I think the bulk of the cost difference comes from the additional add-ons such as the scope caps, throw lever, and external adjustable wind dial. If you add all these things to a VX-5, you get dangerously close to VX-6 price. Hopefully this helps.

That ^^ and the bigger VX-6HD's have a built in reticle level system and illumination.

Depending on the model and street price, the VX6 can sometimes be significantly better of a deal. For instance, this Gen 1 VX6 4-24x TMOA has both of those features plus scope caps (~$170 alone) over the barely cheaper Gen 1 VX5 4-20x TMOA. Granted the VX5 has a 3 turn elevation dial vs 2 turn on the VX6, but you really don't need that much elevation adjustment. The addition of the scope caps already makes the VX6 a better value.

Thank you for pointing that out. I felt like I was forgetting something. Knowing what I know now, I would've found a good deal on the 2x12 VX-6 vs the 2x10 VX 5.
