ill be picking up my first rifle sometime soon and im trying to decide what scope id like to get. ive decided I really like the Leupold vx-3 scope. I can't decide if I want to get the 2.5-8 or the 3.5-10... I live on the coast in wa and will be mostly chasing blacktail and bears with it. I normally bowhike for elk lol. if you guys were gonna get a scope for the olympic pen what size scope would you guys go with?

3.5-10x40. I had both, and found the 3-10 much brighter!

I haven't used the 3.5-10, but my 2.5-8 takes in plenty of light to use right up to the end of legal shooting light in the dense woods of New England.

Can't go wrong with either. I would go with the 3.5-10 unless I was trying to save the ounces in weight. The extra magnification comes with very little penalty on the bottom end (2.5x vs 3.5x).

I would say the 3.5-10 if rifle is a long action, 2.5-8 if it's a short action.

3.5-10 unless like the other guy said you want to save weight. I have had the 2.5-8 years, 25 or 30 years and that one just broke a couple years ago when I dropped the rifle, it got replaced by Leupold with a 2.5-8 vx3i. I live in same area and either would work fine. I have a couple 3-9 vx2 that work the same and a 2-7 that work fine too. My shots don't extend beyond 300yds.

Sounds like I’ll be going the 3.5 way. Thanks guys!
I didn’t realize maven made a 2.5-10, anyone played with one of those out of curiosity?
