Yea id absolutely say being sarcastic to the point of implying i ever said such ridiculous things is a bit extreme to try and make a point. It’s like a kid throwing a fit. Haha.

Price absolutely follows quality, sometimes prices is greater than quality and sometimes quality is better than the dollar amount, relatively, but I most def never said price doesn’t reflect the ability to hold zero a

i, whilst havnt proved myself wrong, always figured buying a flagship model from a solid company was a better option then buying entry level of a possibly better company, was the way to go. I hope that statement makes sense.

But then with my theory of thinking, I should be better off buying high end bsa vs Leupold freedom, which is never do haha.

Anywho, I did some more research on the Huron, my thinking automatically tossed out any idea of an entry model thinking it was their toss away model. Apparently the build and production is the same as other it’s just cheaper bc it lacks illumination. Which is fine by me. I’ll search a few other companies I’ve omitted due to price point, but it looks like it may be my next purchase.

Do you have to show up to every Leupold thread to defend their honor? There are references to 12 scopes being sent back to Leupold in this thread alone. 12. And one guy said "every scope Ive sent back".....I am only counting that as one. So it's more than a dozen guys who have participated in a thread with fifty something posts have had to send scopes in for warranty.

As long as you're here, why is it that every Leopold bashing thread is loaded with guys that, either don't own one, or don't know what they are talking about?

In this case, the op is bragging about sending his back for a "bad reticle". Under warranty, they'd go through it top to bottom, and replace everything. Later he'd come back and show the warranty receipt as proof 'it was no good'. Seems crazy. He just needed someone to help him mount it properly.

Yes that sucks, I was typing something in your reply then just hit the back button and decided to reply with something else not knowing or thinking it would post what I had written previously so sorry about that. Not owning a computer I do most all of this on my phone.

My statement to being extreme and dramatic was aimed at the fact you told me to go ahead just say price doesn’t reflect ability to hold zero. I never said that and it almost comes off as someone going to an extreme, cause that was never a statement I did make, would make or even implied.

I believe cost follows quality, I also believe at some point your paying for quality and name brand, my goal is to find best value per dollar as I’m not rich by any means.

As stated earlier, I did do some research on the Trijicon, and I trust Trijicon as I have experience w their more tactical line. Needing to replace a scope by next season I will probably pick up with Huron.

How manu Leupolds have you sent in?

Last count was around probably at least half of them out of the 50+ I've bought over the last 30 years. Yeah, I used to sorta keep track. Then I stopped buying Leupold. Now.... in their (Leupold) defense, almost all of those were scopes that got sent in were ones that I bought used or came used on rifles. Is that a user issue or a Leupold issue? Hmmm. Who knows? Tracking issues, broken reticles, one scope degassed on a cold day while I was sitting in a stand... one broke internally on a trip to Maine and I didn't know it until it cost me a big bear and we went to verify and it was rattling....

I will say that the last two new ones that I bought, 4 years ago, went straight back to the big L with issues.... VX3HD didn't track and a VX5HD, the ocular was locked up and wouldn't focus. Both brand new out of the box.

I mean, the Big L is the be all and end all, right? That's what I was led to believe.

Then I started to really research things and found this site, among others. OMG, it wasn't only me,

I've got a good friend that absolutely believes that Leupold is IT. It's all he's ever used for 50 years. He talks about how reliable they've been on his custom rifles over the last 10 years.... that only have around 400 rounds each and have never really been hunted except on the back 40. And even then, he had to adjust his Mark 4 the other day, having not shot it for months. Hmmm. He told me to go F myself when I snorted.

I've admittedly bought a metric ton (no pun) of middle price range scopes because I like to tinker and try new things. You can't find what you like without experimentation. I've probably bought at least 150 scopes over the years and the ONLY other scopes that I've had to send in for warranty (that I can think of right now) was a Bushnell Elite 4500x, a Bushnell Banner, a couple of Burris Signature's (US MADE) that were supposedly new in the box, but both wandered when changing the magnification, a Burris Droptine, and a couple of old Simmons Whitetail Classics. The Bushnells and the Burris were victims of enthusiastic drop testing (they actually held up decently until the mag rings locked up), the Simmons were just plain worn out after being on multiple rifles over the years. Oh and two Redfield Revenge scopes that were eaten by a .50 Knight and heavy loads. Funny enough, you know what I've never had to warranty? A Vortex. But I really haven't kept any of them long enough to put them through anything.

I pick scopes based on what I'm going to use them for. Hunting rifles and other serious use guns all have Trijicon Hurons or Nightforce SHV. Range toys and plinkers, get whatever flavor of the month looks interesting for the use at hand.

Something people don’t speak often about is people’s use.
The guy that buys a decent scope, not phenomenal, but decent , and sights it in once a year and hunts from a stand on a field he walks 100 yards to may never experience the need for solid durability and never push the scope to fail. He may think his scope is the cats ass and it may be perfect for him an actuality.

I regret my wise ass reply to you above, Im not interested in trolling or a pissing match, I am actually interested in a good conversation. So lets start fresh....

If his reticle isn't square off of his turrets (it should be), that is an indicator of poor quality. If the reticle isn't in line properly with the turret, and you level with a plumb line and NOT with levels off the turret, wouldn't the scope possibly not track up and down properly? My understanding about mounting with a plumb line and disregarding the levels is because not everyone gets behind a gun perfectly square so you set the scope off a plumb line where you naturally connect to the gun.

IMO well built scope should have a perfectly plumb reticle with the method the OP is using. All of my scopes are mounted with levels and then checked on a plumb line. Never have I needed to adjust my SWFAs or even Burris Fullfield after setting them with levels including the one Mark 5 thats on my match gun.

FWIW, I have been very happy with my Trij Hurons. I've owned Leupolds in the past (Freedoms and VX-3HD) as well as Burris, Maven, and Vortex mid-tier scopes, but I sold all of them to pay for hurons. They track great, the build quality is awesome, and the glass is on point. IMHO the best sub-$500 scope money can buy if you're not worried about dialing.

I wouldnt be happy w those bubbles. Top is one side, side is on opposite side, back looks okay. No wonder the reticle is angled some. Fix it and we’ll talk.

The turret cap is for rough leveling only.
If you lost your reference for gun level, start over.

Here's how I do it.
Use something like a Wheeler gun level.

Make the rifle level (with base level).
Install secondary reference level to the barrel (the V-level), make that level, check they agree.
Install scope, level turret cap with base level (rough level).
Finger tighten scope rings maintaining equal gaps , check the levels still agree.
Hang a plumb-bob, fine tune the scope alignment as needed until the reticle aligns to it.
Tighten scope rings using alternating torque procedure.
Check the gun barrel reference level (the V-wedge level), and the Plumb-bob to reticle, still agree.

You learn something every day. I’ll be checking my reticles for level. Never gave it a thought yat leveling off the caps didn’t level the reticle.
