Leupold reticle is crooked

You use levels on the rifle and turrets.

You dont aim with the turret caps. What matters is that the reticle, when plumb, moves up and down plumb when tracking (if you dial).

Using some shitty chinese plastic levels on a turret is doing nothing functional for you. Unless it's way the heck out of whack, set it with the reticle plumb. A turret cap that is a few degrees out of plumb is meaningless.

I got this one back just a bit ago and checked the reticle. It's level and looks good. They did the typical replacement stuff and looks to be done right. Holding my breath but this one may work out as it has been a hella good scope until I started having issues....

Just to go ahead and put it out there, price doesn't reflect holding zero.

You might get better glass, but it's all over the map on price and actually holding zero.

A 500 dollar trij would be tempting. I havnt seen one. I do not doubt you, I just havnt found one. I’ll go look now. But then the question is, do you buy a top tier companies entry level or a mid tiers mid or high level?

The answer is you buy scopes from companies who invest in making solid aiming devices. I was once a loopy guy myself, I think I have 1 left on an AR from having like 8 of them at 1 point…. We have a search feature. Look up scope drop evaluation. Yes it’s not the gospel and all scopes can potentially fail. But many scopes that have passed the drop test have been solid for lots of us on this sight. The Huron and ascent line from triji is great, credo is great, tenmile as well. Same with Swfa and night force, and some others but the 500-$ price point a reliable scope can be had

This is an initial zero and drop evaluation of the Trijicon Huron 3-9x40mm scope.

This scope was sent by a forum member for this evaluation. The ammunition used was Federal Gold Medal Match 168 SMK that was purchased by Shoot2Hunt for these evals. The 20 round proof group was right at 1 MOA.


Scope and weight:


The scope is a common SFP, 1” tubed hunting scope.

Turrets:

The turrets are Trijicon’s standard called turrets that you pull up to release, spin to zero, and push down to engage- there is no set screws of lock of the turrets...

No matter what scope it is, I always level off of the reticle, then verify clicks follow that straight line. If the clicks dont follow you have a problem.

So if you level off the reticle and your elevation tracks but then in the op's case, the scope is out of level, won't your wind age be out of level. If your elevation is good and tracks but your scope is out of level then it has to mean wind age is going to be off

All lines in the reticle are tied together. Angling the vertical line also angles the horizontal line. Thats why you level the vertical line in the reticle with a plum bob, it automatically levels the horizontal line.

The turret cap is for rough leveling only.
If you lost your reference for gun level, start over.

Here's how I do it.
Use something like a Wheeler gun level.

Make the rifle level (with base level).
Install secondary reference level to the barrel (the V-level), make that level, check they agree.
Install scope, level turret cap with base level (rough level).
Finger tighten scope rings maintaining equal gaps , check the levels still agree.
Hang a plumb-bob, fine tune the scope alignment as needed until the reticle aligns to it.
Tighten scope rings using alternating torque procedure.
Check the gun barrel reference level (the V-wedge level), and the Plumb-bob to reticle, still agree.

EVERY Leupold that I've ever sent in says that they rework or replace the erector assembly in their report. Tracking issue... Erector assembly. Zero retention issue.... Erector assembly. Turret issue.... Erector assembly. Magnification ring.... Erector assembly. Loose objective lens ... Let's go ahead and rework/replace the erector assembly since we have to work on the lens. EVERY SINGLE ONE, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

At this point in the game, I think that field is just pre-populated in their report.

Do you have to show up to every Leupold thread to defend their honor? There are references to 12 scopes being sent back to Leupold in this thread alone. 12. And one guy said "every scope Ive sent back".....I am only counting that as one. So it's more than a dozen guys who have participated in a thread with fifty something posts have had to send scopes in for warranty.

Price absolutely follows quality, sometimes prices is greater than quality and sometimes quality is better than the dollar amount, relatively, but I most def never said price doesn’t reflect the ability to hold zero a

i, whilst havnt proved myself wrong, always figured buying a flagship model from a solid company was a better option then buying entry level of a possibly better company, was the way to go. I hope that statement makes sense.

But then with my theory of thinking, I should be better off buying high end bsa vs Leupold freedom, which is never do haha.

Anywho, I did some more research on the Huron, my thinking automatically tossed out any idea of an entry model thinking it was their toss away model. Apparently the build and production is the same as other it’s just cheaper bc it lacks illumination. Which is fine by me. I’ll search a few other companies I’ve omitted due to price point, but it looks like it may be my next purchase.

I tried to warn you that just because you spend more money, doesn't mean the scope stands a better chance of actually holding zero, but you do you dude.
