I am looking at a lower end spotting scope for a New Mexico elk hunt, not looking to spend a ton of money. I was looking st the leupold 15-30x50 and the Vangaurd 65mm H.D. any input on either, not looking for the dave your money for a 1500-2500 spotting scope as I will not get enough use out of it to justify. Thanks for the input

For the money I really like the Vanguard.

Don't mean to steal your thread but I'm also interested in a budget friendly spotting scope. I've read through all the older threads and still undecided what to shop around for.

I was looking at these two scopes also or considering a Kowa 501, Athalon Ares 65mm, Athalon Cronus 50mm. So if anyone has any input that would be appreciated!

At one time I had the Vanguard 65mm and Kowa 501. I compared both right next to each other. I prefer the fov of the Vanguard over the Kowa. Optically they were similar. The Kowa is very small and light weight.

I have an vanguard 85 and the leupold gold ring 15-30x50.

If I’m packing I love the weight, size and clarity of the leupold. Gives up quite a bit of useful daylight time with the objective size though. Clarity is outstanding even at 30x, like the side focus knob.

For truck hunting or close to camp the vanguard is great. Prefer them over the razor and the lower end kowa (non fluorite or HD) again awesome clarity, longer use in the morning / evening and I’ve never been upset to have the extra magnification when I need it.
