I'm limited to the Leupold Mark IV Spotter 12-40x as far as spotters go.

I've got a lot of time behind Tangent Theta's, Vortex Razors and Nightforce ATACR's for scopes... the full range of binoculars from Leupolds, Vortex Razor and Swarovski EL and now NL Pures.

I'm considering "upgrading" my spotter. Looking at ATC and ATX's though I've heard not to count Kowa out I do enjoy rubber coatings when it's cold....

Anyone peaked through a Leupold Mark IV and ATC that can comment on eye relief and glass?

I own the Leupold Mark IV and have looked through various Swaros side by side and Kowas (I own a Kowa). Yes these premium brands are better in terms of to the edge clarity. But in terms of practical field use, I have a hard time finding a reason to upgrade.

I actually think the Mark IV is a pretty decent compact/tough spotter at a good price point. Every time I want to sell it to upgrade, I look at it again and keep it hanging around. In fact, I'll probably sell my Kowa 55 (first gen) just because the critical eye relief on the Leupold is so much better. It also feels much more durable than the Kowas I've owned or handled.

I'm not sure how it compares to modern Swaros directly, but in terms of hunting applications the Mark IV is a pretty compact, light and reliable package for hunting for the diameter glass. You may be surprised how it compares
