If you plan on shooting animals at "long range" you better be doing the home work. Just picking up a box of ammo and ordering a turret then mounting the scope and hunting does not cut it. You need to find the ammo the gun likes, prove the drops with actual shooting then order the turret. After installing the scope prove, with actual drops, the scope is correct. Anything less than this is what gives long range hunting a bad name.

I just use the MOA turret that came with scope. I used an app to make dope card and it has been easy out to 450 yds so far. I needed bullet bc, temp, elevation, bullet speed and scope height to input into the app software to get the right drop. Once I had how many MOA's I needed I went to range and checked on steel. I don't want to get a cds because I may change my bullet then the cds dial is useless. With my MOA dial I will just have to make a new dope card.

Just the VC-6. I emailed leupold and asked.

So mine (VX-2 UL 3-9x33) is set up to be zeroed at 100 yards and you can only turn it one direction to shoot greater distances, then turn it back until it stops at the 100 yard zero. Is that not a zero stop?

That is a zero stop yes, the zero lock is the same principal, it just is locked on the zero position until the button is pushed.

well. Leupold just called and told me that cannot put Mil numbering on the CDS. so they are sending it back to me with 1/4MOA..almost useless. i'll gather the data and re-order a proper CDS for my caliber.

i'm probably messing up the terms. super confused actually..i was hoping for bigger than 1/4MOA.

Are you looking for a scope with larger click values than 1/4 moa? The 1/10 mil clicks are roughly .333 moa per click so a slightly more coarse adjustment value. If your just looking at a 1/4 moa click scope it would be roughly .07 mil per click.
There are scopes out there with 1/2 moa elevation turrets.

How long does it generally take them to get your turret to you once you order it? I have a CDS on my muzzleloader that I need to order a turret for, but havent yet due to trouble finding a chrono.

thanks. i've been out of rifle shooting since maybe 2006. just immersed myself into bowhunting full-time. not only have things changed, i forgot a lot. i just kinda remember seeing a dope card once on my brother's work rifle. it had MOA and a second column..i forget. as a kid,i just sighted 3" high at 100 and went hunting. i could do that still, but want to get the full experience of what is new.

i spent last evening reading all about it..duh..i made it more complex than i thought..thanks for inspiring me to research.
