Leupold Broke...I was Warned

For whatever reason, only the 1.2 seems to be retaining zero super well.

You’re already looking for a second scope because you tried the “affordable” option on your first scope.

That said, the SWFA fixed 6’s sell for the $400’s here used. One day they may come back in stock — I bought several for $200ish when they used to have sales.
It's wild you can spend 600+ dollars on a scope and it doesn't hold a zero. What the heck is going on. The fixed scopes are an interesting option

Or $400 on a scope that doesn’t break.

Price isn’t inherently correlated to quality.

Cheap Toyotas don’t break as often as lots of luxury brands do.

I didn't read the whole thread, but.... I think that sort of failure on a thin tube scope could be due to stress from mounting regardless of brand. There's a reason to supposedly bullet proof scopes weigh more than most Leupold customers want on their rifle.

Shooting them. Hunting with them. I had more Leupold’s than that, and was constantly chasing zero.

Lol you get on every thread to defend Leupold. We get it, you spent money and want to justify your purchase.

Lol why motivation would anyone have to “want” him to do that? It’s not like we’re investing in these companies or getting kickbacks. We’re just giving five other brands (NF, SWFA, S&B, SWFA, Trij, Maven) that actually work.

That’s a mistake. But you’re welcome to try it. You said in the OP you got it 25% off. But many of us get mil discount of more than that and STILL won’t purchase them — there’s a reason for that.
One xould make your same arguments you said to him and direct that back at you...

We get it. You spent money on your NF. You need to justify them somehow.....

OP if you start a backpack thread you'll get a bunch of people get on here and tell you how x brand sucks and you should get a Kifaru/Exo/SG. I would tell you to get a Kifaru top but it doesn't mean you can kill things with an Eberlestock.

Except I don’t own a NF any longer. Heck, I no longer even own four of the five brands I recommended.

I have no “brand loyalty” except that I recommend brands that work — even though I don’t own them.

I’ve also talked about the brands I spent money on that didn’t work. Wouldn’t I be defending those, too, if what you suggest is true?

Crazy that Jim Shocky has hundreds of hunts all around the world, for yhe last 35 years, most in far more rugged terrain and very remote places in often terrible circumstances than 95% of the hunters here...and what does he have on his rifles? Anyone care to guess? That man could afford to run any scope he desires, sponsored and free or not. I never heard him complain but one time when he dropped his rifle 40' down a chute and it broke...but he complained about his own slipping and not the scope. He is in a position whereas if they were junk he would say so and not use them.

I myself have been using them since the 80's and have at least 2 dozen of them and a lot are on pretty severe duty weapons. This includes pistol scopes too and on more severe recoiling handguns than any rifle anyone would care to shoot more than 1 round from. I even had one on my 7.5lb 300RUM no brake or can, 5.5lb 375 H&H w/brake, and 8.5lb no brake/no can 505Gibbs shooting a 525gr@2700fps, Ruger #1 458Lott, Ruger #1 470NE......and this, a TC Encore pistol in 500 S&W w/ a 10" barrel and the same with a 375 H&H in a 13" bbl, really severe kickers....same for some custom revolvers like 500 S&W w/3.5" bbl in a SINGLE ACTION with hot loads, could only stand to shoot 2 shots at a time...never had to send a single scope back, never a broken scope. Not sure what the hell you guys are doing, to be honest. Maybe learn how to handle a gun properly?

BTW, I did purchase a NF just to see what all the hoopla is about. Nice scope, probably as tough as they say, but it's 2.5x heavier than a Leupold and makes my 5.25lb 7prc handle something terrible...way too top heavy.

You talking bout the dude who also preaches to carry a laser bore sight checker thing everywhere and to use it to check your scopes zero all the time? Wonder why?

Jim Shocky gets paid by Leupold; it's not just free scopes. He is obviously not going to say anything negative about them.

Anyone who believes a product is good because of "pros" using it or because the military uses it doesn't understand how things work.

I used Leupold scopes for years, and loved them, and defended them. After I missed a deer and determined my scope had significantly lost zero (VX3), I started tracking my zero on my rifles and found out they were not holding zero. I now save a lot of ammo and components by not chasing load development and other "gun" issues.

They all suck when they break. But what i would love to see, is a un-biased list of higher end said quality scopes that break, often, posted in here. But then that would start a pissing contest too and people would defend the said junkers on the list. Then they`d start whining and saying the list is made up by a person who hates a certain brand. It just goes on an on. I`ve never seen a certain culture, (the gun culture) that piss all over each others shoes like they do. How do we share and learn from each other if we`re spending so much time defending ourselves against each other while pissing all over the other guys shoes.

I`ve got MANY different brands of scopes, only had 2 different scope brands that were junk in the past 10 years, but that was due to what i paid for them. They just were not even in the less than good quality list, lol. (if i remember, they were both somewhere around the $400 price range) Regardless, i didn`t piss on either of the brands when they failed. I sent them back under warranty, both were replaced, i sold them and I just simply moved on.

The pisser`s that always make me laugh, are those that say Vortex sucks, lol. I`ve got several Vortex tubes, and not a one has ever failed me, nore has the scopes shifted zero. Are they the worst scope on the market? Well they are, if you listen to the haters in all the forums on the internet. I`ve bought many Burris, people always tell me what a piece of sh!t Burris`s are. Weird, i`ve not had a lick of trouble with any of my Burris scopes. I don`t know, i guess i`m lucky like that. Buy what makes you happy, and it works, for you. At the end of the day, every brand out there has its hits an misses.

I just dumped about $5,000+ on 2 high-end scope`s for 2 of my rifle`s. Nightforce was one, the other was a Athlon. If they break, they will get sent back and fixed or replaced. If they never break, that would be great. But i also expect that things are going to happen that are out of our control. But to turn it into a pissing contest? Life is just to short to piss an moan about a hobby we all love.

@Bidwell
Sir, send it back and let them fix it. If you think you can`t trust the brand after you get it back, sell the repaired return/replaced unit and move on.

^^^^^^^^ This.
And don't forget, he can edit anything he wishes.🤔

Start actually tracking your zeros on your rifles and you'll see what countless others have seen.

I don't see it as a pissing contest at all to discuss gear on a gear forum. SWFA is one of the cheapest brands on the market and a ton of Roksliders use them and like them and they have proven reliable. I hate them and refuse to use them but you don't see me saying they aren't reliable.

I bought an excellent condition 1999 4Runner with 150k miles for $4500 last year in Denver.

It’s 25 years old, sure, but it’s a great hunting vehicle.
Needle in a haystack these days. Good shape and 150k miles, it would bring 8-10k in Southeast

Or $400 on a scope that doesn’t break.

Price isn’t inherently correlated to quality.

Cheap Toyotas don’t break as often as lots of luxury brands do.
Trijicon Accupoints might be doable.
Not to mention he also “uses” and endorses one of the dumbest tripods on the market. There’s no credibility.
Hey!! I like my trigger stick ;).
Im going to derail my own thread here. These are pretty gimmicky and not great out of the box, but I do own one and found a hacky way if making it work. I could start a whole thread on the modifications I've tried to improve usability. What ended up with looks silly, but it has significantly improved the stabilityand usefulness. I took an old kydex cheek riser and cut it down, rounded it out so it looks like a taco. I replaced the top yoke with this and it works surprisingly well. The pitch and yaw wiggle you get from the yoke is gone and the only movement you get is from the lack of rigidity from the handle. But that's very manageable. You can still tilt to adjust for elevation without using the trigger, and the kydex grips into the stock as you do. I wouldn't take a 2-300 yard standing shot with it, but it very stable when sitting. Id still prefer prone bipod but its so rare I find myself in an environment that I can do that in. Anyway, from the image with my old ruger, I no longer use the m-lok mount, it just sits directly on the handle. This has also increased rigidity. Again, pretty silly but I really like using it. So much faster and easier to get into position, works ok as a walking stick, and it grips the rifle enough where I can comfortably let it sit on the tripod when I need both hands for something and dont want to put the rifle in the ground. Would be fine for standing shots 100 yards and in, I think sitting you could stretch a shot pretty far. 20241015_212604.jpg20241015_212540.jpg

People dislike trigger sticks?! I don't use mine for long range riflery but when it breaks it will be replaced. Very handy item to have.

If luppy paid me what they paid him I’d shut my mouth too, I’d toss an extra scope w/rings that’s been previously zero’d in my gun case and sing high praises while cashing in that mailbox money

I’ve sent a mark 5 and HD back. One replaced with new other refurbished.
