It’s not but it sure looks like it could be. That’s actually the one wilderness area I haven’t been in even though it’s the closest to my house (it’s the closest to EVERYONES house)
I spent a week hiking around and on Mount Stuart years ago, that place is beautiful. There were some incredible storms over a couple of days and there was a massive Landslide in one area that looked like somebody took several school buses and scooped out the side of the mountain with them. Needless to say, it was pretty exciting being in a little backpacking tent through that storm

T3x alpine veil, Pure Precision (fka Mesa) stock, Mountain Tactical bottom metal, Limbsaver butt pad, Triad Tactical stock pack, Hawkins Long Range Hunter direct mount rings, Leupold VX 5HD 3-15x56mm scope, Salmon River Solutions Arca rail, Atlas CAL bipod, Area 419 Arca lock QD adapter. I love this rifle and it shoots sweet with factory Sako 140 gr. Super Hammerhead bonded bullets and just about anything else I've put down the bore. The target picture I attached is literally the 1st 6 rounds straight out of the box before any modification using - 3 shots to get on target, then clover leaf with Sako ammo.

Finally feel like I can contribute to this thread:
-Started as a 7mmrm superlite
-Swooped a SS 7rm ($100 tikka takeoffs go crazy) and had it cut down to 20” and threaded 1/2-28
-Mc Game Warden 2.0
-NX8 4-32 in NF rings w/ top ring level
-Q Trash Panda (I am filled with regret)
-Atlas CAL tall (love the usability hate the weight)

Shoots great with factory 162g ELDX. A bit of a bear to tote, hoping to put it on a diet but not sure where to cut weight without sacrificing shootabilty. Considering following the Rokslide trend and moving down to some flavor of 6.5
Open to any critique

What height NF rings you got on your NX8? Medium?

Updated the 300 WSM (tan) with a different stock and scope. I like it so much, I built another one in 6mm Creedmoor as a trainer/smaller caliber option.

Gorgeous rifles. I’ve thought about this exact thing, having a thumper and a smaller cartridge (in a heavier contour) with the same stock and scope for a seamless transition from practice rifle to hunting rifle. Are you happy with this pairing? I see many running trainers in something like a KRG Bravo, but I would think you lose some of the transferability that way.

I may be talking out my ass. I don’t have 1/100th the round count of most guys on here.

Beautiful rifles. How are you liking the bolt handle? I ordered one of those and one of the new UM ones to compare.

Thank you. It's been a fun project.

Building on the same platform made more sense to me. I want to improve my shooting ability as a hunter (600 yds on game, 1000 yds on targets). I still do some backpack hunting, so light(ish) and short(ish) are a priority. I built both as similar as possible. They finished within 2 ounces of each other. My goal was to have the same ergonomics and controls on both rifles. Transitioning between the two should be pretty seamless.

Now it's time to put in the practice and become a better shooter. This forum has helped me realize practice in field positions is really important.

Thank you. I really like them so far. Slightly bigger than the standard Tikka bolt handle, but not in the oversized/tactical category. Feels good in the hand at any angle. Should slide into a scabbard without any issues. It's threaded if you want to try other knobs with the same thread/pitch. Also, very light, but solid when installed.
