21 Looks like im one of the younger guys on here.

Firefighter EMT, Going to school for paramedic.

Stuck in WI for now. 3.5 weeks a year I get to go have fun out west. That's not enough though.

After I get my medic license im hoping to find a place somewhere closer to the mountains to work. Eventually ill work my way out there, it just might take a little time (moving certs state to state is going to suck, but if any of you FF/ems have any info on jobs im all ears)

Bowhunter, love the backpacking aspect of hunting out west. Hate sitting in a treestand here in the Midwest.

Have you looked in to taking the national tests when you get your certs... ? Some certs WON'T transfer state to state unless you have a national cert. When I was doing the firefighter thing I know bigger certs like EMT and medic had a national test that we could take as well as the state.

EMT is now required to pass the national registery test atleast in CA I believe that went into effect in 2006 the year after I got mine

National registry is pretty much the standard for all states now, I think there is a few stragglers. It's pretty much the standard nationwide or it is heading that way anyways with their new set of standards and certs.

I got mine in 04 while I was still in high school. It was still an option then. I didn't take it but should have.

I figure EMT and EMT-P should transfer farily easily considering in my state they require national registry.

As for fire, it gets complicated. All my current certs are IFSAC, but I know some states wont take just IFSAC to transfer over to their state cert.

Totally off topic sorry guys

Phil, Denver area 55.

Our three boys are grown and out of the house.

I like to hunt elk in the mountains, mostly with a muzzleloader, occasionally a bow. I like to handload and shoot custom rifles long-range, go figure.

Staying in shape for the hunt and hunting with guys half my age keeps me motivated.

You guys who are gear junkies and say "don't tell my wife" crack me up, as if she didn't know.

My wife calls the basement "Cabela's." Don't tell her that none of the stuff came from Cabela's!!

yeah, definitely a few stragglers. i used to hold a wisconsin state emt license, also currently nationally registered. wisconsin decided to be cute a few years ago and add an additional 6 hour refresher class to make theirs a 30 hour instead of the 24 hour to maintain your license. so every 2 years i have to fly to wisconsin for a 6 hour class not offered anywhere else in the country, awesome. i can have 100+ CME hours but nothing counts other than their 6 hour class.

I just applied for a FF job in wisconsin and will be applying for two more this spring/fall and had to reciprocity my national emt, apparently wisconsin will recognize that because im from out of state, but the ems department told me i can only reciprocity once or twice, so eventually i will still have to come back for the 6 hour refresher if i want to maintain my state license for applying for jobs. wahoo.

this is now the introduce yourself and national registry emt thread, sorry..

Phil.

I have to agree. The good thing with my wife is she like to shoot too. But every time she sees me on the computer looking at stuff and watching videos she is like "Ok.. what are we going to go get now?" But I did find the line that we won't cross. :D I was watching the videos about the no mountain house challenge and she feels pretty strong about the fact that we will not be dehydrating food.
