We used to backpack the crap out of this area every summer. Daily wilderness permit at the trailhead and off we went.

I was told it this particular lake has become an “Instagram destination” whatever that means. My friend had to get a special permit 6 months in advance for us to be able to backpack in and camp.

I hate the internet haha.

You can see why it’s so popular…

Back when I use to live in Oregon, there were a couple cool camping spots and lake spots i use to drive up to camp, or backpack into, than social media happened. Now ruined. Turning into the same issue in Idaho now. We live in a world of being social media famous and not realize folks are ruining the areas.

It’s honestly depressing how crowded the California sierras are now. Just 15-20 years ago we could spend 2-3 weeks back there bouncing between alpine lakes, rivers, natural water slides, cliffs, etc. and if we saw more than a dozen or so folks in that 2-3 weeks it was “busy”.

It got absolutely out of hand during Covid and was another reason to add to the list of why we wanted to bail out of CA permanently.

Took three older kids overnight up into the Tetons. Awesome trip and they got a taste of the high country.

This is the best!

The overnight trips spent with my siblings and parents in the mountains growing up are at the top of the list for “happy place” type memories.

My oldest did his first overnight backpacking trip with me when he was 5. He didn’t want to leave.
