Disposable tarp I brought for meat, and a trekking pole on deadfall. Climbed out to do jumping jacks every hour to stay warm until the sun came up, so I could keep tracking my bull.

Yikes! Way to stick with it. My bag lives in my day pack unless I'm sleeping in it. As does my DCF tarp and bivy (and pad if really cold). Less than 4 pounds = totally worth it to me to have shelter at all times.

My idea of a comfy camp has definitely changed since adding my son into the mix. But this was from a spring camping/dad took the packraft and floated the river for black bears late in the evening kind of trip. Was a blast. And having mom comfortable with little man allowed me some time much needed time to slip away.

Funny how your perspective and priorities change throughout life. I had just as much fun with all the bells and whistles as I normally do getting WAY into the backcountry with limited gear. Sharing the outdoors with your family is special.
