I’m trying to understand the differences between the LS Ranger and SA models. I’ve got one of the certificates so I plan to grab one but I’m not seeing how these models are different. Maybe I’m missing it?

I’m thinking either the SA-324CX or LS-364X with a panning ball head (likely LH-40 with lever). They will travel into the backcountry with me. I know they are not “light”(5lbs+\- for both models) but unfortunately, I already wrestle with an inherited tremor so I would like to prioritize stability as much as possible.

The 364 is bulkier given thicker leg sections and might be overkill but looking for other opinions. I keep my shots under 500 with a 10lb 7PRC.

Thanks in advance!

Funny you ask this as I've spent a goodly portion of my weekend researching LeoFoto tripods.
I want one that I can both glass and shoot off of, I also have an ~10lb 7PRC. My understanding is that the SA line was built specifically for Shooting Applications (hence the SA). Not sure exactly what the difference is, but I'm going with the SA due to it being purpose built. I'm looking at the SA 364 CX as I want the 36mm legs versus the 32 for stability and the .5lb weight penalty isn't enough to make me opt for the thinner legs.
I wasn't sure if I wanted the SA 363 which is the 3 piece version versus the 364 which is the 4 section, but after seeing a picture of the 363 and how long it is, it just looks too unwieldy to pack and not bang into every piece of brush I go under. I'll likely shoot kneeling so I can still extend the legs enough to make the heigh the same as one leg would be on the 363, but have the option for compactness and I'm unlikely to do standing shots.
Just fyi, Campsaver has them at 20% off right now with their coupon code.

The sa models are inverted with 2 leg sections. I just ordered the 282-cmx shi which is 30" collapsed and is much more packable

Are you doing one of the pan heads or the MA heads? I'm leaning towards LH-40 pan heads but I've thought about grabbing an MA-30 on eBay. Since it's mostly for glassing, I thought a pan head would be a good compromise
