Leica geovid comparisons

I’ve seen some different comparisons of the Leica Geovids… I was hoping to hear what the differences are for the glass and clarity from the geovid 3200.com and the geovid R? Or are they the same glass? technology is just there for the 3200.com? don’t really care about the technology.

After a ton of research, I bought the HDR Type 403 (used). I was told (by the company) 2015-on is the same glass. I don’t know for certain that’s true, but I cannot tell the difference between mine and the new ones. I don’t care about the ballistics app.

The binoculars are simply fantastic. I have “alpha” glass and these are my favorite.

I agree with above. I've owned many generations of Geovids, although there have been some differences in coatings I still use my 2015 HD-R's as optically they were very close to the newest models and the older ones just fit my face better.

I have no idea if same glass but I feel like the R’s are better glass then pro’s and 3200’s. It maybe a smaller area of coatings for display since R’s display less info.

I’d call Doug and test GPO’s also, not as good as the R’s glass wise but deals can be found

Has anyone noticed a difference in color tone between the left and right barrel on the most recent gen geovid r?

I just picked up a used pair that was new in 2023, so most recent gen, and I notice that the left barrel is cooler than the right. It's nowhere near as noticeable as say the vortex fury, but it is definitely noticeable. I thought the point of having the laser in the hinge was to eliminate this issue.

It is my understanding that moving the laser out of the tube and into the hinge eliminates some amount of color filtering that is undesirable, but in order to have a display readout in a bino tube, you have to have a notch filter to catch that color display and make it visible.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info.

I never got a headache or any other bothersome issue from the color difference in the vortex fury, but it gives an odd sensation of not being able to get it focused fully because of the detectable difference. Hopefully it is relieved with these since it is less noticeable

I also upgraded from Vortex Fury binos to Leica Geovid R 10x42. Just got back from 4 days in the high country glassing for mule deer. Here are my observations:
Imperceptible color tint difference between the tubes. In some lighting conditions, I could close an eye and look through each tube and detect the slightest difference in tint, but with both eyes open and in use glassing in all lighting conditions, it is not detected.

The upgrade in glass quality, resolution, and general glassing comfort compared to the Fury is substantial. I spent hours behind the Leicas without eye strain, and I would get fatigue and even headaches from the Fury.

Very happy with the Leicas. It was a good upgrade.

I agree on everything you said. I just got back from a 9-day hun using my Geovids, and what I thought was a perceptible color difference when looking through with both eyes, was actually just not having it focused correctly. I got the diopter set correctly, and then realized while I was in the field that there is a very fine region where it is fully focused. I think the depth of field for these is good too, as after I got them focused they didn't have to constantly adjust them at long distances. My only gripe is that the focus wheel turns extremely easily, but it is also very easy enough to get them focused again.

I can maybe pick up a slight tint difference when looking through each tube individually, but not when looking through with both eyes. These are absolutely awesome and I'm glad I switched out my Furys for them

I also found that once I fine tuned the diopter and reticle focus in the field, not at home, the glassing experience was improved.
