Which one is better? Leica 1000 R or Leopld 1000i

Has anyone used both? Obviously the Leica has better glass. But I was told by a guy that the angle compensation was more accurate by the Leopold than the Leica. Don't know if that's true or not

Justin - you seem like the guy who hunts A LOT and in all kinds of weather. I researched the leupy a lot and finally got my hands on one as did my brother (mine was 1000i and bro was 650i). They worked fine and after hunting one day in the rain, total was about .82" for the day and we hunted out all day, they got fogged up inside and BOTH stopped working. They had water inside the unit. I had mine with the lanyard around my neck and the unit was zipped inside my chest pocket of my Chugach Nx and my bro had his sitting in a crooked horn bino system rangefinder holder under his Chugach Nx jacket (however he glassed in the rain more then I did).

After that I looked up their warranty and saw that they actually claim the rangefinder will hold up to rain while being a pocket (their exact wording, lol) but the unit is NOT waterproof nor IMO will it hold up to any amounts of rain.

This was something I had never, ever read from any review about the leupy. I am not sure if guys don't hunt with bows in the rain or hide the rangefinder from the weather or what.

I have never used a Leica.

Justin. Hey bro I own both. If you want to mess around with them let me know.

I runt the Leica almost all the time in the past 2 years. The angle comp is more accurate and the glass is definitely clearer and easier to read for me.

No experience with the Leica here, but I do own a Leupold 1000 tbr dna model for the past 3 years. I've hunted in all kinds of snot with it. It either stays in a fhf rangefinder holder or in a pocket. I have never had any problems with it ranging, fogging up, or getting water inside. Not saying the other fella hasnt, just sharing my experience with them.

Cabelas has the 1200 for sale with $100 off right now for 299. Not sure how much the leica costs.

Will know in a year.
Satisfied with my leupold 1000 but always wanted to try a leica. Sold the leupold to my brother a picked up a demo leica from camera land. Looking forward to trying it.

Had a leupold once and it failed me in Kodiak while an old style leica shined. Returned the leupold imediatly after I got home and ordered a Leica. Its been a great little set up

I don't know about those two exact models, but my buddy has a Leupold and I have the CRF 900. It's not even a competition between the two. My Leica has been flawless for the 9 years I've been using it. And that includes 2013 when we got deluged with something like 15" of rain during archery season. I keep it in my left front pants pocket, and I was soaked to the bone just about every day in that rain.

I love it so much, now I'm thinking about getting the 1600 for LR rifle shooting.

I have owned and used for a lot of years the Leupold 1000 tbr-i dna. Last year I bought a used Lecia 1600 and like that thing heads and tails over the leupold.
