Ignorance? Does nuclear power not produce waste? There’s a little place in Russia that would disagree with who it ignorant of reality.

If you’d like to have a discussion instead of acting like that I’m all for it. But, nothing is the one stop answer for the future of power. So acting otherwise is plain arrogant.

There’s a reason it hasn’t been adopted as the go to answer for our power needs. And, ignorance isn’t it. it has everything to do with what I said. That’s the facts of it. For good reason.

Nobody wants to live around it because of that. Nobody. That’s just reality. A train wrecks and spills coal, a month later it’s cleaned up. Natural gas has no long term affect. Nuclear waste gets out you’ve got a dang desert. If a reactor blows up you got a grave yard for centuries. If a dictator decides to blow the damn plant up, it’s going to be bad. Etc…..

You are right. Ignorance abounds. But, I’m not too dumb to figure out why it isn’t leading the field in alternative energy.


Tell me again who’s ignorant. I want to hear all your wisdom. The world isn’t scripted. Stuff is going to happen. Ignorance is dismissing it as it won’t.

This whole post shows your complete lack of knowledge on the subject..... Why speak on things you know nothing about, with such conviction? I live in a state with THE LARGEST nuclear plant in the USA. Also happen to be in on a lot of the "know" surrounding it and it's operations. You couldn't be any more wrong on how bad they are for our country. I suggest you do some research on all these dangerous nuclear spills. Also look for all the nuclear reactors that blow up... Hint, do not look within the last 40 years.....

We don't have more nuclear because the wind energy lobby has been much more effective in our Congress during the last 20 years. How terrible those wind farms are for birds and other wildlife habitat vs the lack of what we've actually gotten out them energy wise is insanely lopsided. We have them all over Eastern WA now. There are two scenarios where we reach peak energy consumption here in WA and when we need the most wind and that's during heat waves in the summer when everyone has their AC on and during cold snaps during the Winter when heaters are cranked. Both of those weather events are caused by the same thing, a very large ridge of prolonged high pressure that sets up over the Pacific Northwest. And guess what doesn't happen when high pressure ridges are present over the PNW? Wind. There's almost never any wind in those weather scenarios which makes our windmills completely worthless when we need them the most. But a lot of politicians made alot of money off those windmills going up. If the nuclear lobby becomes more effective then everyone will suddenly be all for nuclear, which I think would be great for our country.

Yeah I can’t believe people aren’t standing online go live next to the storage of waste nuclear fuel produces. Ignorant indeed.

Well 30 years of "nuclear waste" for a 2 unit plant takes up less space than a football field, is sealed to where you get more radiation from sunlight in a year than standing next to in a year and absolutely impossible to "take and use for bad things" unless you hit it with a couple JDams, and even then its a contamination issue not an airborne exposure issue. And the contamination area is same size as blast zone.. Small...

We haven't built a new nuclear plant in close to 40 years other than s plant that went online in 2016 (I think) that construction had actually started on back in the 80's.

Too much litigation to work through to make it with the effort. The Trump admin has eased some rules though and Westinghouse has plans to build a few new plants with construction set to begin in 2030.

Texas will have 2 new nukes in less than 7 years

How about some manufacturer build one of those mini-thorium units and set it up in Mexico City or Tehran (they ought to be able to make the fuel). Then see if the US gvnt could find a way to stop getting in the way?

(Maybe ITAR or something gets in the way. Yea I prolly shouldn't start drinking so early in the afternoon.)
@WV Mountaineer Chernobyl and at least one other huge nuclear pp are in Ukraine.
