I have a question that doesn’t appear to be answered elsewhere.

I have acquired a LAW capra rifle recently which utilizes the legendary action works m704 action. Personally I would like to change the stock over to something with a little more vertical grip, from the basner stock that it comes with. Cruising their website it seems like it uses Remington bottom metal. And the bottom of the reciever is round, and appears close to a Remington 700 inlet from what I can see on pictures of the internet. But I was wondering if anybody here would be knowledgeable of this action fits a Remington 700 bdl inlet or is close too?

Figured I would ask here first before pulling the trigger on anything.

Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

curious to confirm this as well!
I see that some stock makers offer inletting specifically for the LAW action, but I don't want to assume that means the inlets are actually different... LAW doesn't quite offer the level of detail on their website to help guide the purchaser... but the actions look very compelling to me

Curious if you ever found an answer to this question. My wife purchased a LAW professional in .280ai several years ago without talking to me first.( I would have said “no way!” after reading reviews on those rifles)…. It shoots like crap with everything I have tried…. Factory to hand loads it doesn’t matter. Can’t get it to shoot less than 1.5” groups. I’m wanting to just use the action to re-barrel with a BSF carbon barrel in .280ai and drop it into a lightweight vertical grip stock or a chassis style stock.

I think a call to one of the chassis manufacturers or stock makers is probably the only way to find out w/ some certainty now

Just call Mark Bansner. He was the guy in charge of designing and marketing those LAW rifles. He left that company because they would not listen to his advice on building rifles that shoot, like really shoot like his customs do. That is why the first designed like you have failed to shoot well. The second generation rifles were a lot better, once they finally did incorporate Marks methods of building rifles the right way. Mark is one of the best rifle builders in the country, but he is pretty expensive.

Id bet lunch a rem700 stock would fit since it looks like a Remington, uses Remington bottom metal and scope bases, although Remington stocks will have a relief gap for the safety that a LAW action wouldn’t use.

Long time since I have started this. I have bedded a law m704 action into a Remington 700 stock. Only have to accommodate the wider recoil lug, otherwise it’s the same.
