Seen 2 bears in North Central WA along FSR's in Late September, when its hot i know a lot of ranchers complain about bears getting into their cattle stock tanks to bathe in Aug and September around here.

December in WV. Season runs until December 31st. Lucked into mine, but the hound guys will tree them up until the end depending on the year.

Saw one on November 21st here in MT this year. Little fella so let it walk.

November 11 for me in California. My girlfriend could have got one last week at work but forgot her rifle. I’ve seen tracks or bears every month of the year but after early October daylight activity really seems to drop off.

Dang that sucks. Do you guys just try to find their dens and smoke them out or something?

I have seen fresh tracks in the snow in early/mid march. Killed my spring bear last year April 9th and had passed on two others before that.
No not really, in certain parts of the state you can run dogs after them. The other parts we just still hunt them in over bait piles.

In the mountains they will hibernate, but on the coast they may only hibernate for about 3 months.

yep one of the Tuesday bears was mine
Were you hunting bear specifically or were you out for the general firearm deer season with a bear tag in your pocket? Or to phrase differently, were you expecting/hoping to see bear in the particular spot you set up?

I was bear hunting specifically

I just want to add, we still have bears hitting the cameras. Just after dark and in a spot we don’t hunt them. All of the other cameras have been taken down.

Not successful, but followed around a set of bear tracks in the snow for a few hours this afternoon in NJIMG_2928.jpeg

I'm down to the last few days of the season and it's still worth going out for them.

Little late to the thread but, but I’ve seen couple bears in my youth early/mid October here in north/central Idaho. Latest one I’ve harvested was Oct 12 and it was at 3600ft while I was out Elk/Deer hunting.

I've taken a black bear 3 out of the last 4 years in the second/third week of September, but they were all opportunistic kills during moose season in SC AK. They're open year round here, but I don't think I've ever seen one after the end of October.

Bears will regularly come in from May (snow clears off the airstrip) thru Oct 15 (bait season ends) when we keep the bait station running. Best eating black bear has been up through early July. After that they start getting into fish. Brownies will come in but they just abuse the station and run the blacks off. Predator control zone in 16B in AK.
