Latest gen Leica Geovid R vs Fury HD vs GPO rangeguide RF BINOS?

What are folks using for bino mount for the Geovid R's?
I’ve been using the RRS Cinch. It has a few notable advantages. First, while it is low profile enough to leave on the binos and still fit in a case or harness, it removes with the flip of a lever (so I can have it on when I’m using a tripod and take it off with zero hassle or tools when I’m not). Other options are a semi-permanent addition. Second, it gives the ability to “clock” the binos in the field. If the binos are not perfectly level due to terrain or whatever, you can flip the lever, rotate them to level, then flip the lever back.

Aziak (which I’ve handled but not owned) is a bit lighter and lower profile. If I were going to leave them on the Geovid R’s permanently I’d probably go that route.

The geovid R have nice glass but the model I tried didn't have a scan mode, not sure if that's been changed in the newest version. Just push the button, wait for response and try again. For me that's a total deal breaker. Trying to pick out an object from it's background without being able to scan both sides of it in real time is a huge handicap. I have the revics and even having to hold them until they go into scan mode is super annoying. I've yet to find a RF that's reticle is perfectly aligned to the lazer and trying to make sure your ranging a target and not what's beside and behind it with single shots of the lazer is super inefficient compared to sweeping over the animal and having the lazer return 400 350 400 as you pass over showing the difference between the target and surroundings.

I just saw the GTO rangeguide 8X40 have a huge sale on them. I spoke with Neal at Camerland and he mentioned that they are good, but have a slight blue tint and glass isn't as good as the leica's. My question is, are the Geovid R's $700 better in glass compared to the GTO's? I'm coming from 10x42 Vortex Diamondbacks so I'm pretty sure either of these is going to be an upgrade for me. I also realize getting 8x40's I'd probably need a set of 15's/18's or a spotting scope for longer distance glassing, so need to figure that into cost.

I've never looked through any GPO binocular but, having bought binoculars from @gr8fuldoug and tripods from his brother Joel at Camera Land, I would suggest you give Doug a call. Sometimes they can offer better than MAP pricing on items. Sometimes they can't. The point is, before you determine whether the step up in quality is worth the difference in price it might pay to see what their best price on that step up is.

Doug said he likes the GPO compared to the Leica. I don't have the greatest eye when it comes to glass so they both looked good to me so I went with the GPO due to the lower price and smaller size. I don't think the 10x42 vs 8x40 difference will change needing a 15x56 or spotting scope but up to you.

if you wanted 10s als has the GPO rangeguide 10x32s for 800 or Sierra had the vortex fury's for 899. the fury's aren't as compact though. There's not much value in a cheap spotter/ 15s imo so it might make sense just to pay a little more and get the leicas if you want a buy once cry once do it all setup.

The GPO warranty is only 2 years on electronics while vortex is lifetime and Leica is 10years. I've been burned on rangefinders crapping out before right after the 2 year warranty expired and wouldn't drop that kind of coin for something with only a 2 year warranty, especially made in china. there's some used geovid rs (make sure you get the newest version) on eBay for 1200-1300 rn and if you keep an eye out deals will pop up sometimes for less on there and in the classifieds.

I can’t attest to 8x as I’ve only compared 10x, typically less mag the less apparent glass quality is. In the 10x I’d say no on $700, but yes on $300, so in 8x the difference is probably even more less noticeable.

Biggest difference is overall size and weight though. 10x40 are pocket size compared to Geo R

I believe the electronics warranty is 5 years on the GPO if that makes a difference. I figured in 5 years maybe I'd want the latest and greatest model with ballistics

you're right it says 5 years on the website (maybe that's USA only?) if you click warranty but in the manual for the rangeguide 2800 it says 2 years electronics and this guy says 2 years on electronics on the new 3200s so go figure
