I realize I'm late to the party commenting on this thread but given the title I think it's ok. My view is it's really petty of eberlestock. The outdoors community is small, tight, and collegial. It's built on innovation and simply making gear better, for the increased enjoyment of the sport. Here you have a company putting out a pack its customers were asking for (and it's certainly a great pack). And you have a very small mind putting up a stink, to the detriment of the community at large. Eberle made a really bad decision here. He's on both sides, marketing his product as bespoke outdoor gear but selling it and defending it like a box store commodity. I would just as soon not pass him on the trail, since he clearly doesn't belong out there.
