Hi all,

The fallow deer season in my state here in Australia runs from March 1st to October 31st. Yes, a generous season. Usually by the end of the season the bucks are dropping their antlers so they don't get pursued as much. I'm working on being able to shoot deer outside the season as well in some areas where property owners want me to thin them out, but in the meantime, my deer hunting is over for this year.

I went out a few weeks ago to have a look around at some deer and decided to shoot some to get some venison in my freezer to last me over the warmer months. Here are some pictures.

Forgot my ammo on one of my first hunts so it was strictly a bowhunt. Still some beautiful country to go for a walk in and we saw a bit of game but none was taken.

I think the deer thrash the trees a little bit when they are getting ready to drop their antlers.

I got pretty close to some deer but couldn't make it happen.

Found some old sheds while walking about.

My girlfriend and I helped the farmer feed his cattle. The drought has slightly lifted at the moment but conditions have been horrific this year.

An afternoon stalk after some rain.

Picking a suitable target.

Buck on the ground.

His genetics indicate low quality antlers so he was a good one to take out before he had a chance to breed next year. He also wasn't very old so he'll eat nicely.

Thanks, mate.

A few more pictures to finish it off...

Took the shot from about 175 yards.

Giving a new little neck knife a run.

Cutting him up at home.

I shot this pig while out spotlighting, too.
