For those who lash their rifles to their backpacks, how important do you feel it is to have the pack cover your scope and action? I'm undecided on this. I can see this maybe adding some protection when in heavy brush or alders but if the cover is so thick where it could impact the rifle, I doubt you could even pass through there in the first place.

I do like the concept of the EMRII and the batwings. But I like the lighter weight of the HC7K for sheep country mostly above tree line.

I'm looking at the same pack for the same reason.
I like the idea for vehicle transport (riding in boat or 4wheeler) as much as normal hiking. For hiking it seems like an added bonus\layer of protection when needed. I do like the way it would protect my Leica spotter and tripod.

I don't think its important at all. I never worry about my bow or rifle once I lash it on the pack

I have about $5000 invested in my rifle and scope, so i baby the crap out of it. I have a neoprene cover over my Swaro scope, and use a Kifaru rifle rain cover to cover the rest. It works great at keeping it dry and from getting scratched while busting brush. I use it every time I strap my gun to my pack.

If I'm using a beater rifle, than no big deal, but my 338L and scope are 7k.

I cover it with everything I can ....much like Todd Kelly.

If I'm riding an ATV then its in a hard gun case already. Otherwise its on the outside of my pack strapped in in such a manner I can access it quickly, but still not have it be in my way either.

Second electrical tape over the barrel. I also use a neoprene scope cover...but that is until I can buy the flip up covers. But I'm glad I had that guy on there for a bike last year that dusted the ever living S*&* out of everything.

I carry mine in a Gunbearer for instant access. It's comfortable and adequately protects the rifle.

Wow, $5K in a shooting stick!! I have about $1800 in mine and smile every time I find new usage marks on it. I knocked my pack over this year with a dead ram in it and my rifle strapped to the side. It skidded the stock across some gnarly shale and left some long fresh white scratches and a couple small gouges in it. I will no doubt be sitting on some glassing hill in the future and look down at those marks and remember fondly the relief I felt dropping that pack full of meat next to spike camp.

I think this guy has the right break in procedure for a hunting rifle

I'm like thru-hunter about scratches and dings. As long as I get them from field use I'm fine with it. Now , when I dropped a big long heavy file on the barrel and somehow it slid along the barrel and left a nasty bunch of scratches as the rifle is sitting in the vice is when I lost it ! I loved the video but I'm not using his method...ever !
