Laser bore sighter

I'm going to switch some scopes around in the off season... thought it might be a good time to invest in a laser bore sighter. Seems like a lot of Chinese junk out there. Anyone have advice on a decent one that's worth the money? Will be using in multiple calibers.

I considered wheeler's professional sighter that sticks on the end of your barrel with a magnet.... many of my barrels are stainless. Don't think it would work

Thanks for the input.

I’ve owned good ones and cheap ones over the years without having any more or less success. If you already have an optic sighted in and you’re just switching them around, it doesn’t really matter if the laser is accurate or not. I secure it in a tripod and level up the rifle, tape a piece of grid paper to the wall and mark where the laser is and then mark where the cross hairs are. Then swap the optic and use those reference points. I’d go with a decent end of the barrel one. The chamber ones are fine but you can’t turn them off without taking them out so the battery can die/dim. The magnetic ones tend to have O rings that do most of the holding. It’s been a long time but I think they will work with stainless barrels okay.

I’ve never tried it but here’s a thought: if you have a mounting option on your rifles, buy a cheaper laser sight that can be adjusted. The you can dial it into your optic alignment and swap scopes. This would be the most accurate way I could think of.

I find the ones that stick in the end of the barrel to be no better than bore sighting on a target at 25 yards. If I was to ever get another one, it would be the style that goes in the chamber.

Here’s a laser sight that mounts to a pic rail and also has a 1” clamp. It’s got easy looking windage and elevation knobs. You’d have to shim it on a smaller profile barrel. This would work aligning with the bore as a bore sight as well. I just never find the purpose built bore sights to be more accurate or consistent than doing it by eye looking though the bore.

Meh. Spend the money on more ammo.

A target at 25 yards and a target at 100 yards and an eyeball will get you there is almost the same amount of effort. Also don’t run the risk of blowing the gun up when you forget the cat toy stuffed in the muzzle.
