I came up with this idea using Kydex for a frame sheet. It was about $10 in materials and took me about 20 minutes to make. I used .80 Kydex and two aluminum 3/16 screw posts. It weighs in at about 3oz. It is a clam shell design so there are no attachment points to the frame itself and stays firmly in place because it is molded to the frame. I hope the attached photos turn out (I haven’t figured out how to post full pictures yet). I will post an update when I get a chance to test it out further.

Sorry Im having computer troubles and can't load the photo's. I do have them up on the "Kifaru Bikini frame" thread in this forum.

Lets try this if you want to see the pictures PM me with your email and I will forward them to you.

How about this, I will PM you my email, send me the pictures and I can post them for you. I am interested to see what you did as well.

Saw your photos on the other thread. Very clever idea!

Did you heat the Kydex to bend it?

Yes there are a ton of videos on youtube showing how to do it. I put mine in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes. Super easy to do. Don't use a heat gun it doesn't work. I made a press with 2 pieces of wood, and some foam covered with Aluminum foil (keeps the foam from sticking) and a wood clamp

what exactly does that accomplish? isnt that right behind the lumbar pad?

It distributes the weigth across the lumbar pad and belt better like the duplex frame. A complaint about the bikini is under heavy loads the two stays become pressure points in your back. According to Aron Kifaru is working on something similar to address the problem.

interesting. i have packed a few HEAVY loads on a bikini frame and thats never been a complaint for me

Same here, the only compliant I have read about with the bikini is objects and/or load sticking through the stays when packed tight or heavy. I know a few members have a simple fix for that with paracord or arrow shafts and that Kifura is creating something similar to prevent the poke through issues.

I haven't read anything about about the bikini heavy loads having the two stays become pressure points on your back. The lumbar pad is so thick I can't imagine feeling the stays through that or that they would creat presure points.

I believe Aron said they were developing something like this for the bikini, not because of stuff poking through. Or maybe both. I'll have to look again.
