I recently ordered a second pair of Kuiu Kutana pants. I already had one pair in an ash solid color. I ordered the new pair in the Valo pattern. The solid material seems much more durable and the camo material seems almost too soft. I sent pictures to their customers support and they say it’s the same pant but the material is undoubtedly different. Anybody else run across this before?

No. Own 3 pairs, Verde 2.0, ash, gunmetal. I will say all are a few years old though, maybe between 2-4yrs. I thought I remember reading they moved where they were manufactured and people had issue with sizing. Never heard of a material issue though.

Mine have been the same. It could be the amount of washes on your old pair. They will soften a tad over time with wash cycles.

In my experience, some materials have a different feel due to different color dyes. For example, I have multiple packs from the same manufacturer all made of 500D cordura, but the greys always feel thicker/stiffer than ranger green, coyote, etc…

I’d guess it’s got something to do with their camo printing process.

That may be it. The material has a very different feel to it.

I think there's a difference, but I had the opposite impression. I've got pros in verde and attacks in solid ash (same materials just minor difference in weight), the pros are beat to hell and they still repel water way more noticeably than the attacks. I was planning on switching to solids but now wondering myself if the extra dyes help increase repellency.

I’ve noticed this with their axis pants. It has to be the way the pattern is printed on. I’ve noticed no difference in actual use.

I have multiple pairs of Kutana pants in various solid colors as well as Valo pattern in different sizes because I drink too much beer. They all feel the same to me. Perhaps the Valo pattern is working and fooling your eyes?

I’ve noticed on mine and I have 5 pairs 1 in camo the camo gets used more and once the dwr gets worn off they feel different then the others but once I retreated them they felt the same a again not as soft..

Regardless, I think they are way over hyped pants, and I own a fair amount of KUIU. One, for my build had to go up a size so the waist is kind of big. Two, the waist is stretchy and stretches out over a few days on a long hunt. Tey are very comfortable and dry out extremely fast.

Without question they changed it!! I bought them when they first came out and continued to purchase them over the years. I believe i have 9 or 10 of them. A couple years ago they changed, much less rigid and much less durable. Now they’re much softer, pill and snag/tear easier. I had sworn by these pants and recommended them to everyone, won’t be the case any longer.

Nah, definitely not. Kuiu has always had variations with their sizing and colors, but the kutana pants that i have received have without a doubt changed. They do not perform nearly as good on multiple fronts. I only wore kutanas and i would wear them 160+ days in the field a year. The guides i know that also used to swear by them, share the same sentiment.

Interesting, I've got a pair that are incredible. I've worn them turkey hunting in the south, elk out west, in the bush of Africa, etc and they are tough as nails. I did buy them several years ago so it must've been just before the change.

If they run some on sale for Memorial day, I intend to pick up another pair so I'll report back with my findings on the differences.

Heck yeah, report back and let me know! Hopefully it’s just a few guys subjective experience and I’m wrong. I absolutely loved them.
