KUIU's New ICON 5200 & 7200 Packs, Rain Covers & Dry Bags - Now Available On-Line

The pack toss is interesting and certainly demonstrates durability, but I don't necessarily think a pack that wouldn't survive it is not a good pack. For one there's a lot of variability with the test like what part of the pack lands first and what it lands on. Kinda like crash testing your truck at 300 mph instead of 80 where it's designed to operate. I could see having to do this if you were in a really bad spot, but the odds are pretty dang slim - I carry a pretty long chunk of rope when I hunt sheep and goats for just such a situation.

I personally think the KUIU pack's frame is capable of hauling anything I need to put in it and it will take punishment from hard falls and spills while loaded - I've proved that to myself already hiking dry-slick trails with 60 pounds of wood-chips loaded - the frame took the full force of my 200# plus the 60 pound load and saved my A$$ twice. The ICON frame may or may not handle a pack toss off a 30' bluff - But that wouldn't change my opinion about the pack's ability to perform all the duties I need it to either way and thus far I'm loving the suspension, compression features, and the utility of the design. By far the most well thought-out and designed hunting pack I have every thrown on my shoulders. Extremely happy with my purchase and I have confidence in the carbon frame based on what mine has endured to this point.

I am really interested in getting an Icon pack, I think I'm leaning towards the 5200 pack with belt pockets added. I wish I could try one on first and see how it feels. I was happy to read a post of someone who's tried them out and had good results with normal pack use. I too find the bluff test to be interesting but I'm never throwing my pack off a bluff. lol. I like the fact the waist belt with go down to fit 32" waists so I will finally be able to sinch up a load and not have it sliding down my hips. It seems to be, from reading posts, that the Kuiu Icon packs are comfortable with a moderate or even heavy load, and with a light to moderate load them feel great and carry the weight well. Anyone had any problems with load lifter straps or waist belt? How durable is the bag material?

Im a little shocked at all the concern about the carbon fiber frame not being "strong" enough. Carbon fiber is some of the toughest s*&t out there.
