KUIU Whitetail question

Those who have the KUIU Pelaton 240 Full Zip...can this function as an outer layer for mid-season? I've owned the Sitka Stratus which was great at blocking the wind. I'm looking for something similar in wind blocking and thickness. Seems like most soft shells are a little loud imo for whitetail. I see the 240 is supposed to resist wind...just curious if it could truly function as an outer layer realistically.

I use both as an outer layer during midseason, depending on conditions. The Peloton 240 is nowhere near the Stratus for wind blocking. The Stratus is also thicker, heavier, and warmer. The Peloton breathes a lot better when you're moving, as you'd expect based on the previous two sentences. Both are quiet.

The Peloton 240 works for me as an outer on low wind days when temps are maybe 45-60. I wouldn't move much in it in those temps, but when colder it works as a good hiking layer and then a mid under a puffy when I get stopped.

It has to be really cold for me to want to walk around in the Stratus, unless I'm moving at a snail's pace. I love having a full blaze orange jacket that's quiet and fairly warm for later in the year though. And there's nothing I've tried from Kuiu or First Lite that touches the Stratus for combining near silence with usable wind stopping.

Yes. It's a solid outer piece. The hood is a little weird tho.

I have a bunch of kuiu stuff but I would not say it’s warm in the stand. It’s more for on the move. I use my kuiu in the early season when it’s warm down to the high 40s and little wind. If there is wind and below 50 I use my Sitka stuff. Imo kuiu does not block wind my 240 don’t even block wind at the gun range nor does my strong fleece 260 or 280. I do run cold in the stand so it may be better for others who don’t get cold in 60 degrees lol.

I use my 240 for most all of my whitetail hunting. When it gets a little colder I throw a puffy on under it.

Sizing up is a must with the 240. Solid piece of gear, but forearm and upper back/shoulder sizing is off.

Would it be better to go with the guide jacket as opposed to the 240 as a mid season outer? 240 would likely be more versatile.

The Guide jacket is better with rain and maybe a little better with light wind then the 240 not much warmer in the stand for me but that’s just me

My hang ups with the stratus were lack of venting on pants made walking in any distance a sweaty mess. The fleece was a burr magnet. I own the fanatic but most burrs are gone by the time I bring that out. I froze one sit this year with the fanatic hoody, midi jacket and shacket over that simply from wind. I really don’t want to go back to the stratus, so looking for other options.

I use it a lot for mid season hunts. Its an easy layer to strap to your pack just in case you need it. I'd say if its really cold/windy you'll want something more but for cool/windy is good. I really like it and it stays in my kit pretty much all year

Thanks everyone. Trying to find a piece that I can use as a crossover piece between whitetail and out west that would serve as an early-mid season for whitetail. Need wind resistance or windproof ideally. Jetstream would work, but I feel it's probably way too noisy for whitetail.
