I haven't seen much discussion about this particular set of rain gear. I own the Chugach NX jacket and pants but decided to buy the Ultra NX with the discount the other day. I received the jacket and pants today. I can't believe how light this stuff is. It's amazing. You can almost see through it. I'll have to do a side by side comparison but I'm curious what others think of it.

I've got the NX pants, I really like them. How do you think your Ultras will compare from a durability standpoint?

That's a real good question. I'd have to believe the Chugach would hold up better simply because they're heavier but I'm not so sure about that. Other than thickness, the materials seem to have the same strength. Time will tell. The fact that they have no pockets would mean they wouldn't get used for a long duration and only for downpours. But, who knows.

oh yeah I feel its more stretchy than chugach

its paper thin so no I don't think it will be as durable as the chugach just based upon the fact the fact fabric is that much lighter

i wouldn't want to wear it for days on end but its so light and packable for those earlier hunts when it might rain here or there its money

bates is right, it does stretch. For where you're dealing with intermittent rain or "just in case" I think the Ultra will be fantastic. I've worn the Chugach NX all day in pouring rain and I don't know that I'd want to do that with the Ultra. Yes, I'm sure it'd be just as waterprooof but having no pockets all day would be annoying. I'd have to believe the Chugach would be less likely to tear if you got it with a strong sharp branch, too.

I am fortunate enough to live within driving distance of their store in Dixon. While I was there I looked at the Ultra set and thought wow, this stuff will tear the first time I walk through sage brush with it. One of the girls at the front desk came over and I voiced my concern about it ripping and she said that the "guys" just got back from a sheep hunt with it and they said it held up just as well as the Chugach. I would need to see some really good comparisons with the Chugach to believe that. I tried on all 4 of their rain jackets and felt the Chugach to be just right. Yukon was beefy, Teton was like my Kryptek rain gear, and I was afraid of ripping a $300 Ultra jacket, lol.
