Kuiu Ultra Merino 120 LT Series

UPDATE**

Hiked in friday afternoon. Was low 90's and out the gate it feels lighter on me hiking with a decent pack up the hill. Mostly sunny and there was a little breeze, I feel like it dried faster than the 145 and like the 145 the sweat usually pools around my wrist on the shirt. One little breeze blowing and I could straighten my arm out and it would dry it, that was cool. Hunted the next day in it and hiked out in upper 80's with NO breeze. It was a little toasty but the shirt feels lighter on me overall than the 145.

I have never noticed any of my wool clothes being itchy and this isn't either.

If i had to give it a rating i would say it performed maybe 5-10% better given the situation of hunting I use it for.

I washed and dried it, like I do all my kuiu. I put it back on after drying it and it shrunk the same as my other 145 XL did.

I did notice some pilling on the shirt. None of my 145 i ever noticed that before and upon inspecting some i didn't see any. We will see what that means for the long term of the shirt down the road.

also- the pattern on the 120 is NOT the same as the other Valo colors. This is much darker and uses dark contrast colors as oppose to light brown.

ADDED:
I have owned every "model" of tiburon pants and the newest version as of last year have not held up. I was scraping up sticker burrs and noticed i have three cuts/holes in them. All of my other pants i think i have one pair of pants with a hole. I wear these 90% of the time for my hunts and time afield.

I received my 120 hoody, i dried it to shrink it a tad and fits great. I dont find the hood overly big, seems about right. I got a solid colour and its really soft and comfortable to wear. Ive had it on three training hikes with 60 lbs in the pack. And i already have a small hole worn into one side where the front of the shoulder strap rides. Kinda bummed about that. Other than that i really like it, ill have to save it for the big trips vs training hikes to make it last. 6'1, 198 lbs size large

Brought a 120 LT hoodie for a 10 day sheep hunt in the NWT intending to wear as my primary base layer in warmer weather (65-80 degrees.) Worked well for the first couple of days when it was that warm, but we had cooler temps (35-50 degrees) for most of the trip so I ended up wearing a Pro 200 merino hoodie instead under a Kenai jacket.

I think it would work fantastic in the warmer temps that I expected. We did deal with horrible mosquitos the entire trip and I definitely got bit a lot through it when I did wear it, so if I was going into that again I'd treat it with Permethrin.

I never ended up bringing this on my sheep hunt. I wore a second hole in the front from my
Other shoulder strap. I submitted a warranty claim and sent it back and wrote a small
Note stating that two holes wore through from my pack straps and that I was hoping for a little more durability from a top that they market as being 5x stronger than traditional merino. And they actually warrantied it. I was kind of shocked as I’ve never had good luck with kuiu warranty.

That's interesting as I never knew they were changing things with the Tiburon theya re also my go to hot weather pant. I have the same pair from 6 years ago that I wear along with a pair from 2-3 years ago. I had some tenacious tape in one hole and there's thread pulls and some stitching falling apart but the 6 yo pair is still holding up. Was bummed to see arons not putting hip zips in his new born primative hot weather pant

Could be just speculation on how the pants feel to on me. But the new ones (valo) feel hotter then my old original vias pants and the new pants feel like they weigh more. I should weigh them to see, lol.

Worn the 120 hood now about 10 active hunting days and I do believe it breathes better- but does pill.

I ordered the 120 crew yesterday in L and XL. I have a 5K race on the 24th I want to try it out on. Wasn't sure about sizing, so I will take the one that doesn't fit back to KUIU when I travel there in a month.

Did you get the 120 Lt zip offs? How did they perform for you? They have some sizes on clearance right now thinking about picking some up.
They work well for their intended purpose of being able to remove or put them on without removing your boots. I can feel the zippers so they aren't as comfortable as a baselayer without but it's not a big deal.

For days where I don't need to remove my baselayer, I prefer regular style, but for days where temps are likely to shift a lot or if I have to exert a lot of effort and need to put my baselayer on and off, these are awesome.

What’s a good temperature range to use them for?

That would depend on the individual, the outer layers, and the activity level. I use mine anytime. I would typically use lightweight baselayers, let's say mid-40s down to 20s, depending on the situation.
Thanks for the information! I was just wondering the temp range this way I have a better idea. 👍
