I thought the same thing. Pretty big fan of light weight merino for base layers. I might get a tee and the zip offs. At that weight I don't know if we need the zip off function though. I almost wish they didn't do it and keep weight minimum.

What’s the big changes? They dropped the thickness 4%, (from 125 to 120 g/m2), they return to their original shape (my 125 SS is bad for this), stronger (my 125 LS had a hole in day 3) and 15% higher price. I see they have a hoody like the wick 150. Might order a 120 SS in Stone, nice plain colour and their emblem looks harder to see which is a plus.

I couldn’t help myself. I wanted a lightweight pair of merino zip/offs. I have their 125 Merino shirt, so I’ll compare it to that. I typically need a higher % of merino to keep the stink down, so I’m curious to see if this performs differently than the 125/145 they have (which has been great for me).

Well I didn’t know they were making zip offs in the 120 so this post about made me spend some money…but they list the weight as being the same as the 145’s which I have. I also have two pairs of First Lite’s discontinued Fuse 200 zip offs which are fantastic and my go to for my light cold weather base layer.

more nylon so should dry quicker and in theory be more durable. lose a tiny bit of the scent benefits but i like more of a nylon blend for hot weather. i've always been underwhelmed with their merino so i probably will pass.

I still don’t understand why they avoid putting a zip neck in the lightweight pieces. I’d really like to see the hoody for the 120 LT add that. That Merino 145 hoody should be the design of all the lightest weight options. First Lite does the same thing…no quarter zip hoody on the lightest weight merino. SG’s hoody is just a little too heavy for me for hot weather, but I think their design of the chinook is awesome.

I’m a huge fan of zip off bottoms but not sure it’s worth it on this light of a piece. @Justin Crossley looking forward to your thoughts on the bottoms; how they perform to a similar weight merino from another brand, is the zip off feature worth it, and the fabric feel in general.

merino and nylon both absorb 30% water, but they hold water differently so it seems nylon dry's quicker but on paper it shouldn't be a big difference.

Completely agree with SG chinook. Best merino shirt design, but the 170 weight is a bit heavy in warm weather.

I agree with the chinook, very nice piece but too warm for me for when i want to wear merino. This 125 hoody looks nice though, i also like how if doesnt have that side mesh panel on the sides. I found with other kuiu merino tops that the stitching for that was uncomfortable under a heavy pack

At least the 125’s are now at outlet pricing, anyone foresee a sale this weekend from them?

Sitka has the only lightweight merino top with a quarter zip. It’s awesome. But a hood and a pocket of some sort would be next level.

First Lite has their Wick and Kiln shirts in a quarter zip that zips down to the nipple line. I have a few of them for archery in Florida.
